Assam Election | Forget my arrest; Rahul Gandhi won’t be able to harm a hair on my head in next seven lives: Himanta

Amid the intensifying political battle ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, alleging questionable external linkages and accusing him of benefiting from favourable narratives in Pakistani media. Speaking at a rally in Silchar, Sarma claimed that television channels in Pakistan were running talk shows that appeared to endorse Gogoi, calling it “unusual” and suggesting deeper implications ahead of the polls

Guwahati: In a fiery retort to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi—whom he dubbed “Pappu”—Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma labelled Gaurav Gogoi as “Chota Pappu” while speaking to reporters in Silchar. Dismissing Gandhi’s threat to arrest him if Congress regains power in the state, CM Sarma declared that even Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Rahul himself would need to be reborn to arrest him. “Rahul won’t be able to harm a hair on my head in the next seven lives,” the CM asserted defiantly.

Earlier, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi labelled CM Sarma as a duplicate Hindu. Reacting to that charge, Himanta Biswa Sarma said if I am a duplicate Hindu, why doesn’t he declare his children’s and wife’s religion? He doesn’t dare to do that because he himself converted his children to Christianity. CM Sarma further alleged that ahead of the Assam election, Pakistani television channels are conducting talk shows and giving a clean sheet to Gaurav Gogoi.

The clips are available on social media. “ Pakistani media are campaigning for Gaurav Gogoi, what does it mean, you can understand how strong is his Pakistan connection”, he added. He also asked whether it is normal to conduct talk shows on the Assam election in Pakistan. It had not happened earlier, but this time it is special for Gaurav Gogoi, and this is strong evidence of my allegation on Gaurav Gogoi’s Pak connection. “ Left ecosystem members like Gaurav Gogoi, Kunki Chawdhury are here to finish Sanatan if they can grab power”, CM Sarma added.

Attacking the Congress alliance AJP for fielding a candidate whose family supports Islamist separatists like Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, CM Sarma said that Bangladeshi leaders like Mohammad Yunis and others are speaking the same version as Khalid and Imam to cut the Silliguri Corridor. Which means they want to merge Assam and the Northeast with Bangladesh. The family of the opposition candidate in the Central Guwahati constituency are supporting Khalid-Imam for the same cause. It is now clear that the opposition is with these separatist forces. People are closely monitoring it, and they will reply to it on April 9 through EVM, CM Sarma added.

Addressing several election rallies in Barak Valley, CM Sarma said that the BJP will sweep the 2026 election and secure 90 to 100 seats out of 126.
