Hyderabad: In a significant breakthrough, Hyderabad Police busted an illegal LPG cylinder hoarding and black-marketing racket in the upscale Banjara Hills area, arresting 10 persons, including a licensed gas supplier identified as Mohd. Aamir.

Mohd. Aamir, proprietor of “Metro Gas Agency,” emerged as the prime accused in the case. Police said he, along with nine associates engaged in delivery, driving, and labour work, orchestrated the illegal diversion and sale of LPG cylinders. All the accused are residents of the Banjara Hills locality.

According to investigators, Aamir exploited his licensed position to divert LPG cylinders from authorised supply channels and stockpile them at a graveyard near Nagarjuna X Road. The cylinders were stored in violation of safety norms and later sold at inflated prices, taking advantage of public demand for domestic gas and generating wrongful gains.

Acting on credible intelligence, sleuths of the Commissioner’s Task Force, Jubilee Hills Zone, in coordination with Banjara Hills Police, conducted a targeted raid at the graveyard location. The operation led to the apprehension of all 10 accused at the site.

During the raid, police seized a total of 414 HP gas cylinders—both full and empty—of various capacities, with an estimated value of ₹21,88,000. In addition, more than 10 transport vehicles used for illegal distribution were confiscated. These included DCM vehicles, Bolero, Tata Ace, Tata Intra, Piaggio autos, and Tata Magic vehicles.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Inspector Ch. Yadendar, along with Sub-Inspector D. Raviraj and the Task Force team, in coordination with local police units.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, Hyderabad, Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, IPS, confirmed the development and stated that further investigation into the racket is underway, including tracing the supply chain and identifying potential beneficiaries of the illegal network.

In the midst of developments in West Asia, the Union Government and its ministries have repeatedly assured the availability of LPG reserves in India, however, certain sections are exploiting this vulnerability by creating disruptions in local fuel supply chains. Though Recent reports indicate that while supply chain disruptions have occurred due to the West Asia conflict, the Government of India has maintained that sufficient LPG reserves are available and has advised against panic buying or hoarding.
