The case was registered at Lohiyanagar Police Station after a video from the March 23 event surfaced online, allegedly showing Shaukat Ali issuing threats against police personnel. In the video, he is heard saying that only a small number of legislators would be sufficient to retaliate against alleged police encounters targeting Muslims, warning that those responsible would also face similar consequences. He also called for unity among supporters with the slogan “one stick, one flag and one leader,” emphasising the need for political strength.
During his speech, Shaukat Ali also criticised the local police administration, taking objection to remarks by the Superintendent of Police (SP), Meerut, who had warned against offering namaz on public roads and cautioned that violators could face cancellation of licenses. He questioned whether similar action would be taken against those performing “Nagin Dance” near mosques during Ram Navami, while asserting the role of Muslims in India’s freedom struggle.
The case has been registered against six named individuals, including Haji Shaukat Ali, District President Chaudhary Fahim Raja, Youth Metropolitan President Owais Alam, Western Uttar Pradesh President Mehtab Chauhan, Metropolitan President Imran Ansari, and Asjad, along with several unidentified persons.
Police officials said efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused, including Shaukat Ali. ASP (Kotwali) Antariksh Jain stated that the administration will not tolerate any attempts to disturb public order under the guise of political or religious gatherings. Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Hero Vajpayee said that with the government led by Yogi Adityanath in power, strict action would be taken against anyone trying to disrupt peace in the state.
