Despite immediate and swift action by the fire department, the blaze engulfed the building rigorously and continued to rage for nearly three hours. Thus the fire extinguisher operations became extremely challenging and difficult. Another report also claims that nearly nine people belonging to the same family were locked inside the residential building during the fire accident.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu expressed concern over the fire incident near Palam Metro Station, saying authorities are closely monitoring rescue and firefighting efforts while extending all necessary support to those affected. In a post on the X social media platform, he said, “Deeply distressed by the fire incident in a residential building near Palam Metro. My thoughts are with those affected by this tragic loss. Rescue and firefighting operations are being closely monitored, with all necessary support being extended”.

Senior police officials also asserted that exact number of casualities could not be gauged as of now as the rescue operations are underway. The rescue team is swiftly working to safely evacuate everyone stuck in the building. Thirty fire tenders have been deployed in the spot. The Delhi Fire Service is working to reduce the escalating fire and has pulled out nearly 10 people and has taken them to the nearby hospital. However, doctors declared many among them as dead.

As per the reports, two other people jumped off the building to escape the fire and currently have been admitted in the hospital. Police and other emergency teams are also in the fire accident spot to assist the resue operations as the locality is a very narrow and congested region. According to the sources, the building that caught fire is a four-storied building along with a basement and temporary tin-shed on the roof. The first and second floor was used for storing cosmetics and clothes while the next two floors were used as residential spaces. The exact cause of the fire is unknown as the rescue operations are underway and further details are awaited.
