Kumbh Mela Viral Girl Monalisa’s Father Appeals to MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Seeks Help to Bring Her Back

Monalisa Bhosle’s father, Jayasingh Bhosle, has approached the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, seeking intervention to bring his daughter back, alleging that she was taken to Kerala and forced into marriage to convert to Islam. The controversy has intensified after her mother claimed the bride is a minor, while the presence of senior Kerala CPI(M) leaders, MP and minister at the wedding has drawn scrutiny

Bhopal: Jayasingh Bhosle, father of Monalisa Bhosle — the woman who went viral during the Kumbh Mela — has approached the Madhya Pradesh government seeking intervention to bring his daughter back home after her marriage to Mohammed Farman Khan in Kerala.

Bhosle, a resident of Khargaon district in Madhya Pradesh, has alleged that his daughter was taken away and forced into the marriage as part of an attempt to convert her to Islam.

Appeal to Madhya Pradesh CM

Jayasingh Bhosle appealed to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, requesting the state government’s assistance in locating and bringing back his daughter. According to him, the family had strongly opposed the relationship and had travelled to Kerala after learning about the developments surrounding the marriage. The wedding of Monalisa Bhosle and Mohammed Farman Khan took place recently at the Nainar temple in Poovar Arumanoor in Thiruvananthapuram district.

Before the wedding, Monalisa had approached the Thampanoor police station in Thiruvananthapuram, claiming that her family members were obstructing the marriage and seeking protection. Following this, the police summoned her father for discussions. However, Jayasingh Bhosle refused to consent to the marriage and maintained that his daughter had been misled and trapped. After returning to Madhya Pradesh, the father reiterated that he believed his daughter had been taken away under pressure. He claimed that the family was deeply concerned about her safety and future and urged the state government to intervene in the matter. Leaders of the Hindu Jagaran Manch have also stated that they would support the family in efforts to bring Monalisa back to Madhya Pradesh.

Mother’s statement raises questions about age

The controversy surrounding the marriage intensified further after statements from Monalisa’s mother raised doubts about the bride’s age.

In a phone conversation with members of the VHP in Kerala, she reportedly stated that Monalisa is still below the legal age for marriage and that the family had not given its consent to the union. The mother claimed that her daughter is only around 16 years old and that the marriage took place without the consent of the family. She said the family had lost contact with Monalisa after she became widely known following the viral Kumbh Mela photographs.

The mother also expressed concern about the circumstances under which the marriage took place. She alleged that the girl had been taken away under pressure and appealed to authorities and the public for help in bringing her daughter back. According to her, the family does not have access to Monalisa’s official documents and therefore could not immediately verify the exact date of birth.

If the claims regarding Monalisa’s age are accurate, the issue raises serious legal concerns. Under Indian law, the legal age of marriage for women is 18 years. Any marriage involving a girl below that age may fall under the provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. The allegation has therefore intensified demands for authorities to verify Monalisa’s official age and determine whether the legal requirements for marriage were met before the ceremony took place.

CPI(M) leaders’ presence draws scrutiny

The controversy has also drawn attention because the wedding was attended and publicly supported by senior leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Kerala Education Minister V. Sivankutty, CPI(M) State Secretary M. V. Govindan and Rajya Sabha MP A. A. Rahim and CPI(M) leader VPP Mustafa were among the prominent political figures present at the ceremony.

During the event, the leaders congratulated the couple and described the marriage as an example of social harmony and the freedom of individuals to marry across religious boundaries. They emphasised that Kerala has a long tradition of interfaith coexistence and respect for personal choice.

CPI(M) State Secretary M. V. Govindan stated that the essence of all religions is humanity and that marriages across communities reflect the values of equality and harmony in society. Rajya Sabha MP A. A. Rahim also described Kerala as a place where people of different religions can marry freely without fear. However, the presence of senior political leaders at the ceremony has also attracted criticism in light of the allegations regarding Monalisa’s age.
