Guwahati: “The Bharatiya Janata Party shall never, under any circumstance, permit the proliferation or consolidation of any ‘Pakistani asset’, whether in Assam or anywhere across the sacred expanse of Bharat. With a calculated design to destabilise India’s internal security architecture, Pakistan has, time and again, conspired to foment unrest through the sinister machinery of terrorism. The Government of India, under the resolute and indomitable leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has demonstrated unequivocal firmness in crushing every force that dares to collaborate, overtly or covertly, with such inimical designs.
As an integral component of the Centre’s uncompromising crackdown against Pakistan-sponsored terror to preserve peace, order, and national integrity, the Government of Assam, under the decisive stewardship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has likewise undertaken stringent and uncompromising measures. It is precisely owing to the Chief Minister’s firm and unyielding interventions that any attempt to cultivate or entrench a so-called ‘Pakistani asset’ within the sacred soil of Assam has been nipped in the bud and decisively extinguished.”
BJP Exposes Gaurav Gogoi
This was asserted by BJP State Spokesperson Ranjib Kumar Sarmah during a press conference convened at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan. Sarmah categorically described him as a “Pakistani asset” within Assam. He further stated that the report released by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the State Government upon the advice of the Chief Minister, has already been placed in the public domain and contains detailed revelations regarding the alleged links of Gogoi and his spouse with Pakistan.
The report, according to him, has laid bare the conspiracy allegedly orchestrated by Gaurav Gogoi in his purported endeavour to evolve as a “Pakistani asset,” and has exposed the true character of the Congress leadership and its familial affiliations the true nature of the anti-Assam and anti-India character. Sarmah emphatically declared that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s more than 6.5 million dedicated karyakartas shall steadfastly discharge their solemn duty to uproot and annihilate, in its entirety, any such anti-national force inimical to the sovereignty and unity of the nation.
The political tug-of-war presently unfolding among the Opposition in Assam is confined solely to Miya-dominated constituencies. After Independence, the Congress witnessed the emergence of certain pro-Miya figures such as Saadulla and Bhashani, while simultaneously producing towering leaders like Gopinath Bordoloi, Bishnuram Medhi, and Bimala Prasad Chaliha, who unwaveringly championed the cause of the indigenous people.
However, the contemporary Congress, under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi, appears to be treading in the ideological footsteps of pro-Miya stalwarts Saadulla and Bhashani, aggressively mobilising itself for Miya-dominated seats. This assertion was made by Assam BJP. It further remarked that the much-publicised narrative of Opposition unity in the State has degenerated into a hollow spectacle. During the 2021 Assembly elections, as well as subsequent by-elections and Panchayat polls, the Congress repeatedly invoked the rhetoric of Opposition unity, yet ultimately betrayed its allies and contested independently.
He further revealed that out of 800 applications received from across 126 constituencies, more than 600 originated from Miya-dominated districts like Barpeta, Dhubri, Darrang etc. This unmistakably demonstrates that Congress’s electoral enthusiasm is disproportionately concentrated in Miya-majority areas rather than indigenous-dominated regions. While the ruling BJP maintains a commanding lead in 104 indigenous-majority constituencies, the Opposition remains embroiled in internal strife within the 22 Miya-dominated seats, state BJP said.
