Kollam: The arrest of the Youth Congress has once again put the spotlight on the culture of impunity that critics allege exists within sections of Kerala’s political ecosystem.

Before she died, Renu wrote just one thing…

“I am Renu. I am ending my life because I was mentally and physically harassed by Suhail Ansari.”

Imagine the level of mental torture…
when death feels easier than living one more day….

And now Suhail Ansari, Youth Congress State… https://t.co/uDGeMRFnZA pic.twitter.com/4pj1ohSs1v

Suhail Ansari, state secretary of the organisation, has been arrested in connection with the suicide of Renu Anil, a receptionist at a private CBSE school in Kollam. She was found hanging on the morning of February 14. According to police, the action followed the recovery of personal diary notes and WhatsApp chats during the investigation, which allegedly indicated sustained harassment and mental pressure faced by the victim before her death.

Diary Notes and digital evidence: Key basis of arrest

Renu Anil was working at a school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education. After her death, her family raised serious concerns, prompting a deeper probe. Investigators reportedly found written entries and digital evidence suggesting that she had been under immense stress linked to interactions with the accused. Based on these findings, police moved forward with charges related to abetment of suicide and harassment.

Political row deepens, ‘The Kerala Story’ debate revived

The development has triggered sharp criticism of the Congress ecosystem in Kerala. Critics argue that this case is not merely about an individual’s alleged misconduct but about a larger pattern where political protection and influence are seen as shields against accountability.

The arrest has also reignited debate around narratives that were previously dismissed as “propaganda.” When The Kerala Story was released, several leaders from the Congress and allied groups strongly criticised it, calling its themes exaggerated or politically motivated. However, opponents now argue that repeated incidents involving exploitation, coercion, and harassment indicate that uncomfortable realities cannot be brushed aside simply by branding them as fictional or agenda-driven.
