Such an observation by Nehru’s official biographer speaks volumes about the intellectual bankruptcy of the first Prime Minister of Bharat in relation to historical facts. It also exposes his cunning attempts to suppress historical facts and realities, distort history and apply his pseudo-secular ideology to humiliate Hindus for his own politics of appeasement and paving the way for Leftist historians like Romila Thapar to carry forward a pro-Islamist agenda in the garb of secularism to enhance Leftist vote banks with support of fanatic Islamists.
Murti Breaker, Not Murti Trader
Both Nehru and Leftists boast about scientific temperament and historical analysis on the basis of evidence. However, when it comes to the brutalities incurred on Hindus by Islamist invaders the scientific temper fades away and evidence is suppressed for political expediency.
Neither Nehru nor these so-called secular historians would read the accounts of Ghazni invasions of the 11th century penned by his own people like Al-Utbi. If loot was the sole aim, then why were the murtis broken and mandirs destroyed? When Ghazni was offered a price to spare the murtis, his reply was, “I wish to be known as an idol broker (Butshikan), not idol trader.” Somnath was not the first. He had done this wherever he went with his armies and had dispatched the murtis from Thaneshwar also to Ghazni like the ones from Somnath where they were placed in footsteps to be trampled. The massacres of Hindus, about 50,000 at Somnath alone, have no relevance for them. This psyche continues for all such massacres carried out for almost 900 years by Islamist invaders from Kasim in Sindh to Ahmad Shah Abdali. Akbar, who butchered 40,000 Hindus at Chittorgarh and another about 100,000 at different cities in Rajasthan like Kumbalgarh, Jodhpur etc. is great but those who fought to retain their independence like Sangram Singh of Kashmir, Hindushahi Raja Trilochan Singh, who defeated Ghazni, have been ignored. Even Hamirji Gohil or Maharana Pratap, who don’t deserve to be called great under Congress or Left regimes, were forgotten.
For Satish Chandra, another Leftist from the JNU, Shivaji was merely a mountain rat and this was taught for many years through the NCERT book he penned.
The image of these so-called “Islamist warriors” was promoted by suppressing the histories of those brave Hindu rulers and warriors who resisted these invaders. We don’t find a single name of these bravehearts in history books, particularly in the Congress Governments sponsored NCERT textbooks. The left regime in Bengal did more blatantly though office circular that no mention of destruction of Hindu temples (not one but thousands) has to be mentioned in history books. No doubt, Romila Thapar attributed the destruction of Somnath to heavy rains and storms lecturing at Alberta University in Canada.
And these so-called scientific historians did not stop at this. Ziauddin Barani has given a descriptive account of Malik Kafur’s attack and destruction of Somnath Mandir during Allauddin Khilji’s time. Besides loot, the Murti was broken and sent on a bullock cart to Delhi along with the two Ranis of Dewal Raja. Khilji, converted their religion and took one in his harem while the other went to the harem of his son. However, the Comprehensive History of India authored by Nizami and Habib (AMU historians) mentions that the Ranis were sent to Delhi with respect, no mention of breaking of murtis and being sent to Delhi or the massacre of Hindus there. It’s the same way they and the Congress bat for Aurangzeb or Tipu Sultan today.
Coming back to Nehru on Somnath Mandir, a lot has been said and discussed but one must note here that Nehru was not only opposed to its re-construction but he openly led a campaign to thwart the move. We know that 17 letters were written by him besides dictating the President of India, Rajendra Prasad to remain away from its inauguration.
However, the most blatant anti-national and anti-Hindu act was to write to Liaqat Ali, the PM of Pakistan, assuring him on an issue that was purely an internal matter of Bharat. He wrote on April 21st 1951:
“I do not normally draw your attention to broadcasts of Radio Pakistan (Peshawar). But I have previously mentioned to you that these broadcasts, especially in the Pushto language, are extraordinarily virulent and often contain entirely false allegations. A recent broadcast from Peshawar in Pushto on April 17th is an example of extreme irresponsibility and falsehood. I shall be grateful if you will consider this.
The story of the gates of Somnath Mandir being brought back to Bharat from Afghanistan is completely false and there is not an atom of truth in it. This has been publicly denied. In fact nobody knows if there are any such gates anywhere and nothing of the kind is being sent from Afghanistan to India. Nevertheless, the Pakistan Press has been full of this story.
The Nehruvian DNA continues in contemporary times and multiple incidents prove it. Denial of the existence of Bhagwan Ram in Supreme Court, boycotting its construction and inauguration continue to be practised by the Nehru family besides continuously attacking not only Hindu dharma but coining terms like Hindu terrorism etc. Yet, when it comes to seeking votes their dynastic prince who stated people go to temples to tease girls is found taking rounds of temples and making a show in front of cameras of being a Hindu devotee. When the Indian PM glorifies Somnath Mandir and prays according to his faith they accuse him of being communal whereas offering Chaddar at Ajmersharif by Prime Ministers is secular? Is holding Iftar parties secular? Shouting for Palestine and carrying Palestine bag in Parliament secular? Is silence on brutalities on Hindus, the world over, secular? Crying for Ghaza but silence on Bangladesh massacres of Hindus is secularism? Is using Durga puja for political gains secular? Is supporting Shariat laws secular? Is crying for terrorists shot in encounters secular? One can go on adding to these anti-national and anti-Hindu acts of these so-called secular opposition politicians who leave no opportunity to abuse Hinduism in the most foul language for appeasing and getting political mileage from Islamists besides making vote banks shouting for electoral rights for Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.
A ridiculous argument is given that what the invaders did is past and hence be ignored. Is that brutal past not being re-enacted against Hindus by the Islamist fanatics today? Has the word kafir been removed or the cry of Ghazva-a-Hind been given up? Did you hear a single voice by these opposition politicians protesting against the consistent cries of Ghazva for Hind, Bengal, UP and Bihar from Bangladesh and Pakistan? Has the glorification of the brute invaders and rulers from Qasim and Aurangzeb stopped by Islamists? No, on the contrary they hero worship them and aspire to carry forward their ambitions in present times by keeping their religion above the nation and Constitution.
The resilience at Somnath Mandir and that too by PM Modiji is not only to be seen as an assertion of Hinduism and remembering the braves who resisted Islamic invaders. It is a matter of national pride to expose the brutes and honour the brave Bharatiyas who fought them. It is a strong message not only to Pakistan but to all fanatic Islamists and their internal agents here that Bharat won’t take it any more and is strong enough to thwart any such attempt. Further, the country, particularly the youth has responded with the same zeal that K. M. Munshi had expressed in a letter to Nehru at that time.
“I can assure you that the “collective consciousness” of Bharat today is happier with the scheme of reconstruction of Somnath sponsored by the Government of India than with many other things that we have done and are doing”.
Today, the Islamist appeasers led by the Congress, Left and all anti- Hindu politicians continue with the Nehruvian conspiracies that were hatched in the name of secularism to humiliate Hindus and the pride of the country that Somnath Mandir is.
