NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted another accused in connection with a case related to revival of Maoist’s Northern Regional Bureau. With this, the agency has so far chargesheeted three workers of the banned Maoist outfit in connection with the case.
“Priyanshu Kashyap aka Rakesh aka Nilesh, a resident of Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, has been charged under sections 13, 18, 20, 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in the supplementary chargesheet filed by the NIA,” said the agency in a statement released on late Tuesday evening, January 13.
“An active member of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) terror organisation, Priyanshu was an in-charge of the outfit’s Area Cell Committee in Delhi and Sub Zonal Committee in Rohtak,” added the statement by NIA.
Kashyap was arrested by the agency in July 2025 and found to be engaged in ideological indoctrination, recruitment and mobilization for CPI (Maoist), NIA’s investigation revealed. He was also said to be involved in the revival of front organisation and dissemination of banned material for the banned group.
NIA’s investigation had further revealed that the accused Priyanshu, had carried out his underground activities under false identity, using clandestine methods. He was also found to be in possession of various incriminating underground and operational documents of CPI (Maoist).
The case relates to attempts by various leaders, cadres and sympathisers/Over Ground Workers of the outlawed outfit to re-energise the group’s decrepit influence in the NRB, comprising the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Himanchal Pradesh.
It is worth noting here, that the anti-terror agency is probing multiple cases related to proscribed CPI (Maoist), ranging from its terror financing network to activities and incidents involving cadres, sympathisers and over ground workers of the banned outfit.
Earlier, the agency on January 3 had also chargesheeted four members of the Maoist’s group in connection with the murder case of a Gopniya Sainik.
NIA had chargesheeted Raju Kursam, Sukku Kursam, Shankar Kursam and Mannu Kursam who were all involved in the brutal killing of Gopniya Sainik Chotu alias Kishan Kursam. According to NIA, the accused carried out the act of killing Chotu, with an aim to instil fear among the surrendered cadres.
Chotu, a former Naxal who had surrendered and active as a Gopniya Sainik was killed in Bijapur district in December 2023. The NIA has arrested and chargesheeted a total of 8 members of CPI (Maoist) in connection with the case.
