150 Years of Vande Mataram: Indian Army to celebrate with military band performances across key cities

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, the Indian Army will present Military Band performances across the country. The events aim to honour the national song’s legacy while promoting patriotism and unity

New Delhi: To mark the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram, the Indian Army will hold Military Band performances at key public locations across the country from January 19 to 26, 2026. The initiative seeks to celebrate the historical and emotional significance of the national song while promoting patriotism and unity through dignified public performances.

As part of the nationwide programme, Military Band performances will be held at multiple locations across various Commands. In Bihar, the events will take place in Patna and Gaya, while Ranchi will host the programme in Jharkhand.

In Uttar Pradesh, the performances are scheduled for Lucknow and Prayagraj, with Dehradun hosting the event in Uttarakhand. Raipur in Chhattisgarh, Gopalpur in Odisha, Bengaluru in Karnataka, Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, and Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra will also witness the band displays. Telangana’s event will be held in Hyderabad, while India Gate will serve as the venue in New Delhi.

In the northern region, Shimla will host the performance in Himachal Pradesh, and Kargil will do so in Ladakh. Naihati in West Bengal, the birthplace of Sri Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, will also feature a commemorative performance. Rajasthan’s programme will be organised in Jaipur.

A special performance by the Army Symphony Band is scheduled at India Gate, New Delhi, on 18 January 2026. Each performance will last approximately 45 minutes and will take place between 2pm and 5 pm.
