RAIPUR: A row erupted in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district after a youth died by committing suicide following an alleged assault by a group of people led by one of the now arrested suspect Sohail Khan.

The victim identified as Naresh Sahu was reportedly employed with a gas agency in Bilaspur who took his life by hanging himself at his house in Mungeli district on January 2. Sahu was currently residing at a rented accommodation in Bilaspur’s Chingrajpara area.

The victim’s bike reportedly had a collision with the accused youth on December 30, after which Sohail along with his accomplices allegedly assaulted Naresh for his association with Hindu organisations. Sahu following the incident had also lodged a complaint with police at the Kotwali police station.

The police on the basis of the complaint initiated an investigation into the matter and had asked Sahu to record his statement. Sahu however did not turned up to record his statement and returned to his house in Mungeli where he committed suicide on Friday.

The victim, before his death, also shared a video demanding justice in the case. In the purported video, the victim alleged about receiving threats from Sohail and other individuals. He also alleged about being pressurised by police.

Members of Hindu organisations following Naresh’s suicide gathered near Kotwali police station on Friday and staged a strong protest. The members demanded swift action into the matter. The police on the other hand have reportedly arrested one of the accused Sohail Khan. The case is being investigated further by the authorities.
