NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued an advisory to all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across India to observe Veer Baal Diwas 2025 on December 26. The day is dedicated to honouring the courage, creativity, and resilience of children and to inspiring them to play an active role in shaping the nation’s future. Every year, Veer Baal Diwas is observed to commemorate the unparalleled valour and sacrifice of the Sahibzadas, the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who laid down their lives to protect faith and righteousness. The occasion also underscores the importance of nurturing the moral strength, innovative spirit, and patriotic values of India’s youth.

In its latest circular, the UGC emphasised that the 2025 observance should go beyond remembrance and serve as a platform for youth engagement and nation-building. The Commission has urged HEIs to organise a wide range of activities to encourage student participation, learning, and reflection.

Suggested activities include:

  • Knowledge-based games and quizzes to enhance awareness about India’s history, culture, and values
  • Debates and elocution competitions focusing on themes such as courage, leadership, and innovation
  • Skits and role plays portraying stories of bravery and moral strength
  • Slogan writing and poster-making contests that inspire national pride and creativity
  • Rallies and awareness walks to promote the spirit of unity and collective responsibility
  • Group discussions and peer-learning circles on the vision of Viksit Bharat and youth participation in nation-building
  • Sports and fitness activities integrated with awareness messages on teamwork, perseverance, and discipline

In addition, the UGC has encouraged institutions to motivate students and faculty to watch the live telecast of the main national event on DD National or the official YouTube channel. The initiative aims to ensure that the Veer Baal Diwas message reaches campuses nationwide, inspiring young people to embrace the ideals of sacrifice, resilience, and innovation.

To document and share the spirit of participation, HEIs have been asked to upload photographs, reports, and records of activities conducted during the observance. These records will show how students and institutions are working together to build a Viksit Bharat, a strong and developed India.

By observing Veer Baal Diwas 2025, the UGC aims to nurture a generation of confident, compassionate, and responsible citizens who embody the spirit of service and resilience. The initiative goes beyond commemoration; it seeks to awaken in children and youth a deep sense of purpose, pride, and participation in nation-building. It reinforces the belief that young minds are not merely the leaders of tomorrow but the changemakers of today. They are capable of shaping a progressive, inclusive, and self-reliant India grounded in courage, nationalism, culture, and character.
