The National Investigation Agency on Sunday arrested Gade Innaiah, former Maoist from Jangaon district for allegedly making statements in support of the banned CPI (Maoist). He was brought to Hyderabad and produced before a special NIA court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. Innaiah was subsequently shifted to Chanchalguda Central Jail.

According to the reports, the arrest followed remarks allegedly made by former Maoist Innaiah during the funeral of slain Maoist leader Katha Ramachandra Reddy alias Vikalp. The agency also cited his visit to Chhattisgarh after the killing of Maoist leader Hidma, where he reportedly met Hidma’s mother and addressed media and YouTube channels, criticising Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Based on these activities, the NIA registered a case alleging that Innaiah maintained links with Maoists and promoted their ideology. The agency said it had earlier issued multiple notices to him.

The arrest of Gade innaiah comes amid intensified action against urban Maoist networks, alongside a surge in surrenders and arrests of cadres across Telangana and neighbouring states.

Innaiah has been booked under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to acts endangering the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India, and Sections 13 and 29 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The charges include allegedly encouraging support for the banned CPI (Maoist), intending to further its activities, and inciting people to continue the Maoist movement.

Innaiah heads an organisation called Bharat Bachao. In 2023, he and others were booked under the UAPA after police arrested G Srinivas, who was allegedly travelling to meet CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member Prasad Rao alias Chandranna in Chhattisgarh.

Chandranna, along with CPI (Maoist) Telangana state committee member Bandi Prakash alias Prabhath, surrendered before Telangana Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy in October this year.
