Operation Hawkeye Strike: US military massive strikes in Syria targeting ISIS in a hitherto conflict-ridden West Asia

The US military launched massive strikes in Syria targeting ISIS and their establishments in the country. The attacks are the retaliation for the killing of the two American soldiers and an interceptor in Syria by the ISIS network. The latest escalation is deemed as another prickle in the hitherto conflict-ridden and volatile geopolitical landscape of West Asia, which funnels further security crises in the region

The hitherto conflict-ridden and volatile geopolitical landscape of West Asia lately, witnessed yet another violent escalation as the US military launched Operation Hawkeye strike in Syria targeting the ISIS network in the country. The military operation was initiated by the United States in retaliation to the death of two US soldiers and one interceptor in Syria who succumbed to the bullets unleashed by the ISIS network. US President Donald Trump confirmed the launch of a military offensive and reiterated that the terrorists responsible for the attack on the US soldiers in Syria will not be spared.

“Because of ISIS’s vicious killing of brave American Patriots in Syria, I am hereby announcing that the United States is inflicting very serious retaliation, just as I promised, on the murderous terrorists responsible”, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Syria under the President Ahmed al-Shaara also owed its support to the US to combat the ISIS terror network. The government also assured to further escalate the military strikes to dismantle ISIS and their establishments across Central Syria.

U.S. Forces Unleash Massive Strike Against ISIS in Syria

TAMPA, Fla. – U.S. forces have commenced a large-scale strike against ISIS infrastructure and weapons sites in Syria. This massive strike follows the attack on U.S. and partner forces in Syria on Dec. 13.

US President Donald Trump further asserted that the new Syrian government formed in 2024 after the fall of the decades old Bashar al-Assad regime had rendered its complete support for the US to destroy ISIS in the country. US Secretary of Defence, Pete Hegseth also exclaimed that Operation Hawkeye targeted ISIS fighters, infrastructure, weapons and other related sites across Syria. “This is not the beginning of a war — it is a declaration of vengeance. Today, we hunted and we killed our enemies—lots of them. And we will continue”, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth further affirmed.

The US military operations in Syria targeting the ISIS network dates back to many years. Thousands of US troops are stationed in Syria with the motive of eliminating the ISIS terrorists. However, the latest escalation and massive strikes by the US was triggered as the ISIS terrorist attacked an American convoy along with Syrian forces in the central town of Palmyra leading to the death of two US National Guard members and a civilian interpreter. Later, the ISIS attacker was also shot down. Three other American soldiers were severely injured in the face-off.

In the previous month, the President of Syria Ahmad al-Shaara visited the White House and an understanding was inked between both the nations to emanate strikes against ISIS and completely uproot them. The new regime in Syria, thus gives the US a big advantage to strike ISIS at a massive scale. Syria has been cooperating with the US to fight against the Islamic State. The latest operation has targeted more than 70 Islamic State groups across Central Syria.

The latest US military operation by the United States in Syria further destabilizes the hitherto conflict-ridden West Asia which is engulfed in the Israel-Hamas conflict, repeated tensions in the Iranian border etc. The fragile geopolitical and security landscape of West Asia suffers from further fissures and security crises with the US launching massive military strikes in Syria.
