Imphal: President of Bharat Droupadi Murmu offers prayer in the Sri Sri Govindajee Temple in Imphal on December 12. President Murmu in her maiden two-day visit to Manipur. Bowing before the sacred Govindajee murti which represents Bhagwan Krishna and Radha, President Murmu offers silent prayer with hands folding seeking blessings for restoring peace and unity in Manipur.
Addressing a public gathering after visiting Govindajee Temple President Murmu said, Manipur’s strength lies in its diversity — its culture, languages, and traditions. The hills and the valley have always complemented each other, like two sides of the same beautiful land. Dignity, security and growth opportunities for tribal communities of Manipur and ensuring their greater participation in the country’s progress is a national priority.
Earlier,President Droupadi Murmu paid her respects to the brave women warriors of Manipur at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex, Imphal on December 12. The Memorial Complex stands as a tribute to the sacrifice of Manipuri women and commemorates their uprisings in which they challenged the British and feudal powers with great courage.
President Droupadi Murmu also met and interacted with a few Internally Displaced Persons in Imphal. She assured that the Government stands with them at all times to address their needs. She affirmed that the Government is working to secure their homes, livelihoods, and the future of their children. She further assured them that the Government of India is taking necessary measures to facilitate their progress towards an environment of peace and sustained prosperity. She also impressed upon them the need to strengthen harmony.
Later, President Droupadi Murmu interacted with members of Maram tribe, the only PVTG of Manipur, at Senapati district. They said that various government schemes, such as PM-JANMAN and the National Health Mission, have helped them immensely.
The President appreciated them for their efforts towards preserving their rich cultural identity, developing traditional agricultural techniques, and making strides in education. She said that their active participation and progress are essential for the inclusive development of Manipur and India. She also attended a public function at Senapati, Manipur. She laid foundation stones and inaugurated various developmental projects. The President said that the Government of India recognises the aspirations of the people of Manipur. She urged all communities to continue supporting the efforts for peace, understanding and reconciliation.

She expressed confidence that the people from the valley and the hills will remain together with renewed harmony and take the State to great heights of prosperity and happiness.
