In what is deemed and analysed as the continuation of the draconian rule of Pakistan military under the aegis of Asim Munir, former ISI Chief Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed is sentenced to 14 years of “rigorous” imprisonment. The military court of Pakistan has pronounced the verdict and the former ISI Chief is convicted under the allegations of political interference, misuse of power & the government resources and violation of the Official Secrets Act, thus causing a major threat to national security.

The entire court proceedings spanned over 15 months beginning on August 12, 2024 under the Field General Court Martial as per the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act. Former spy Faiz Hameed is also convicted for causing wrongful loss to persons. The verdict is witnessed as a major development in the political landscape of Pakistan which is also a testament to the growing authoritarianism in the country under the rule of military dictator Asim Munir. Faiz Hameed is the maiden ISI Chief to be convicted, thus reflecting the iron fist of the Pakistan Army which aims to eradicate adversaries, thereby fulfill the hegemonic ambitions. Faiz Hameed had served as the Director-General of ISI from 2019 to 2021.

However, the verdict from the Field General Court Martial read that “after lengthy and laborious legal proceedings, the accused has been found guilty on all charges and sentenced to 14 years rigorous imprisonment by the court which has been promulgated December 11, 2025. “Involvement of the convict in fomenting vested political agitation and instability in cohorts with political elements and in certain other matters is separately being dealt with”, the statement from the Pakistan Army further reiterated.

It is said that former ISI Chief Faiz Hameed belongs to the camp of former Prime Minister Imran Khan who is currently imprisoned in Rawalpindi. Thus, the verdict against Faiz Hameed is deemed as the continued and relentless crackdown of the Pakistan military under Asim Munir on all political adversaries whom they consider as a prickle in the path of power consolidation. Apparently, Imran Khan had handpicked Faiz Hameed to lead the spy agency of Pakistan, ISI.
