New Delhi: In a major development, two hardcore Maoists active in the bordering district of Balaghat of Madhya Pradesh surrendered before security officials on December 11. The surrendered Naxals have been identified as Deepak alias Mangal Uikey, a resident of Poladongi of Balaghat and Rohit a resident of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.
Deepak Uikey and Rohit were members of the Maoist’s Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh (MCC) Zone which covers densely forested bordering regions of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. Both of them reached the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) Korka camp under Birsa police station limits and surrendered with weapons.
Both the surrendered Maoists were carrying a collective bounty of Rs 43 lakhs on their heads, as announced by the government. According to details, they were the last active cadres of the Maoist’s MCC zone which the Naxals wanted to develop as another stronghold after Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region.
Madhya Pradesh becomes Naxal-free: CM Mohan Yadav
With the surrender of Uikey and Rohit, Madhya Pradesh has become free from red terror after three decades, announced state’s Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in a post on X.
“Today, with the surrender of the last two Naxals in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh has become Naxal-free after three decades, bidding a final salute to Lal Salaam (red salute),” said CM Mohan Yadav on Thursday.

The CM paid tributes to the security personnel martyred in the anti-Maoist campaigns along, congratulating the security forces, police and the administration working on the ground.
He noted that with eradication of Naxalism in the state, the hurdles in the development of Balaghat, Mandala and Dindori has been removed and the government will ensure holistic development of the region. He stressed that that the government will not allow Maoism to flourish again.
42 Maoists of MCC zone carrying 7.7 crore reward surrender arms
CM Mohan Yadav, further informed that as many as 42 Maoists active in the MCC zone have surrender before officials in the past 42 days. He said that it is a historic and major development.
“Historically, 42 Maoists of MCC zone carrying bounty of Rs 7.75 crore have surrendered in 42 days,” he said.

It is to be noted that several senior operatives of Maoist’s MCC zone have surrendered before police in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh lately. Among those who laid down weapons are Maoist’s central committee member and in-charge of MCC zone, Ramdher, who was carrying a bounty of Rs 1.05 crore, Maoist’s spokesperson Vikas Nagpure alias Anant, and Maoist’s Kanha-Bhoramdeo division commander Kabir.
