New Delhi: A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) on December 11, raided the house of a terror suspect in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district.
The sleuths of the agency along with personnel from Jharkhand Anti-Terror Squad reached Ansar Nagar under the jurisdiction of Pelawal police station limits of Hazaribagh on Thursday morning and conducted a thorough enquiry at the house of an arrested terror suspect Shahnawaz Alam.
Security was tightened up and additional deployment of security personnel were made outside the premise. The team was also carrying a printing machine suggesting that the officials may have gathered inputs about important documents.
The officials reportedly interrogated family members of Alam who is already in custody following his arrest by a team of Delhi Police in October 2023. Alam was arrested by the special cell of Delhi police in connection with the Pune ISIS terror module.
Although, the agency’s sleuths chose not to disclose the details of the crackdown, it is being assumed that the raid was conducted on inputs given by Alam. This was the second time that the agency’s officials have raided the said premise.
Alam, an original resident of Hazaribagh was first arrested by the police in connection with a theft case in the year 2019. He was granted bail in 2020 after serving 7-8 months in prison. Following his release, he allegedly came in contact with terror handlers and was eventually arrested in 2023.
Security agencies have arrested multiple people in connection with alleged terror module from Jharkhand lately. A team of Delhi police, ATS and Ranchi police in a joint operation had also arrested a terror suspect from Islamnagar area of Ranchi in September this year.
The arrested individual was identified as Ashar Danish, a resident of Bokaro district. Officials nabbed him from a lodge in Ranchi in connection with a case registered against him in Delhi.
Agencies in August 2024 had also claimed to bust an AL-Qaeda inspired terror module following a co-ordinated crackdown on terror suspects, involving police from multiple states. The terror module was allegedly being led by Dr. Ishtiyaq of Jharkhand. Around a dozen suspects from across multiple states were arrested in connection with the module.
