“Bharat Taxi,” a new ride-hailing app, began operations in Delhi on December 2. Backed by eight major cooperative organisations, the service aims to rival popular platforms such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido by providing reliable transportation options.

In its pilot phase, Bharat Taxi is offering multiple vehicle options, including cars, auto-rickshaws, and bikes. More than 51,000 drivers have already registered on the platform.
The app is operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd, a registered cooperative society that began its journey on June 6, 2025, with the goal of making transportation more accessible to all. The promoters of Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd include the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul), IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NDDB, NCEL, NCDC, and NABARD. In addition to these major cooperative organisations, the board also includes two elected representatives from among the drivers.
“Bharat Taxi has been launched in Delhi with over 51,000 drivers already registered on the app,” Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd Chairman Jayen Mehta told PTI. Mehta, who also serves as Managing Director of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCCMMF), noted that driver registrations in Gujarat are currently in progress.
He added that the Prime Minister’s vision of Sahakar Se Samridhi (Prosperity through Cooperation) inspired the Ministry of Cooperation, under Union Minister Amit Shah, to establish this new cooperative initiative for the benefit of lakhs of drivers across the country. Amit Shah had first announced the plan for a cooperative taxi service in Parliament in March 2025.
The Bharat Taxi app comes with several key features aimed at improving accessibility and the overall user experience. These include user-friendly mobile ride booking, transparent fares with real-time vehicle tracking, multi-lingual interface support, 24/7 customer service, secure and verified onboarding, and a focus on inclusive mobility. The platform also incorporates tech-enabled safety and support measures for citizens. Notably, the app operates on a zero-commission model, allowing drivers to retain their entire earnings, and any profits generated by the cooperative are returned directly to the drivers.
Another notable feature of the app is its integration with public transportation systems such as the Metro rail. This enables users to book multiple types of rides from a single platform, making it easier to plan their entire journey seamlessly. In addition, a partnership with Delhi Police ensures enhanced safety for both riders and drivers. According to the Ministry’s statement in Parliament on December 2, the app is designed to free commercial vehicle drivers across the country from reliance on private companies.
