Speaking at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented four ambitious and visionary proposals to foster global security and prosperity. PM Modi reiterated the member states to rethink, envision and rearticulate the global pathways for a shared and mutually beneficial future in an era where the world-nations are inevitably entangled in unpredictable geopolitical challenges and other natural catastrophes.

Prime Minister Modi also reiterated to work towards an inclusive, just and a sustainable world order. He also voiced for sustainable economic growth with the motto of “leaving no one behind”. In his address at the G20 Summit, PM Modi highlighted the ideal of “Integral Humanism” which is rooted in the principles of civilizational wisdom to ultimately foster “harmony between progress and the planet”, thus assuring in the message of sustainable development.

Championing global traditional knowledge repository

Among the four proposals pitched by Prime Minister Modi one was calibrating a global traditional knowledge repository, which would be on lines similar to the Indian Knowledge System(IKS) initiative of the Government of India. The proposed global traditional knowledge repository would act as a global platform to preserve, cherish and transfer the precious knowledge system to the next generation. The repository would aid in preserving humanity’s collective wisdom for future generations, the statement from MEA added.

G20 Africa Skill Multiplier Initiative

This initiative asserted by PM Modi aims to train the skill development trainers with the coordinated support of all the G20 partners. The goal is to create one million certified trainers in Africa over the next decade and enable large-scale skill development across the continent. The MEA statement asserted that the initiative would have a multiplier effect and will enhance local capacity building, thus long-term development of the African continent.

Harnessing global healthcare ecosystem

The third proposal is a collective mechanism ideated by India to train medical experts from the G20 countries. It is ensuring skill development and readiness among the medical professionals which enables them to swiftly respond to health emergencies and natural disasters. The long-term goal is to bolster and equip the global health ecosystem for emergencies such as pandemics and other unforeseen contingencies.

Consolidating counter terrorism efforts

The fourth and the final proposal pitched by India at the G20 summit is to consolidate a coordinated effort among the G20 partners to combat terrorism and drug menace. PM Modi highlighted the nexus of drug trafficking as a threat to public health, stability and security, especially the threat posed by the rapid spread of poisonous drugs such as fentanyl. Thus, the aim is to revolutionise finance, administrative mechanisms and other security tools to take effective action and successfully eradicate terrorism, drug menace and the sources of terror financing. Thus the agenda is to get rid of the problem from its roots.
