Haridwar: The Uttarakhand government on November 15 demolished yet another illegal mazaar built on government land in Haridwar district, reinforcing its continued crackdown on unauthorised religious encroachment by the Islamists  The demolition was carried out near Nehadpur Suthari village under the Laksar tehsil, where authorities found an illegal structure erected on gram sabha land without any valid documentation.

According to officials, the demolition followed a notice issued two weeks earlier, asking the concerned khadim to present legal land documents. After no ownership proof was submitted within the stipulated period, the administration proceeded with action as per law.

The operation was conducted in the presence of SDM Saurabh Aswal, accompanied by a team of revenue officers and a large contingent of police personnel. Before the demolition began, the entire area was sealed and secured to prevent any disturbance. Officials confirmed that no individuals were found inside the illegal structure at the time of the operation.

Haridwar, known as a major centre of Sanatan culture, has witnessed multiple cases in recent years where government land was allegedly encroached upon by the Islamists through the construction of unauthorised mazars. A detailed administrative survey had earlier flagged the presence of such illegal religious structures across various parts of the district.

Speaking on the action, District Magistrate Mayur Dikshit reiterated that the state government follows a clear zero-tolerance policy toward illegal encroachments. “Strict compliance is being ensured. Two weeks ago, the person associated with the structure was issued a notice to present legal documents. As no evidence was provided, the demolition was carried out today,” he said. The DM added that additional police deployment was made to avert any potential law-and-order situation.
