Zohran Mamdani: The Mayor of New York and his absurd anti-India rhetoric as he calls PM Modi a ‘war criminal’

Zohran Mamdani, the new Mayor of New York is celebrated by the western media as a “progressive leader”. However, history testifies that he is anti-India and makes baseless accusations with half-baked knowledge. Mamdani has even quoted PM Modi as a ‘war criminal’, without any solid evidence and has protested against the Supreme Court verdict regarding the construction of Ayodhya Ram Mandir. Here are the facts that speak for the pluralistic fabric of Indian society, beyond the fabricated claims

Zohran Mamdani, the new Mayor for the city of New York from the Democrat Party. He is hailed and publicised by the western media as a “progressive leader”. Apparently, he is an Indian-origin man and the maiden person from the Muslim community to hold the position in New York. However, there is yet another infamous and controversial facet to Zohran Mamdani. The Mayor of New York is known for his anti-India rhetoric who utters baseless allegations against India and its civilizational ethos. He had even quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “war criminal”.

Zohran Mamdani also has held protests against the construction of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir which was apparently an outcome of the Supreme Court verdict. With respect to 2002 Gujarat riots, Mamdani has baselessly linked it to the political party of BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has also unleashed irrational assertions on the status of the Sikh community of India, without having any awareness of the societal system and ground reality in India. Unlike, the vast Indian diaspora or the Indian-origin community across the globe who have wide appreciation about the developments in India and who are proud of their Indian roots, Zohran Mamdani, with his half-baked knowledge and rusted perceptions repeatedly attacks India, its community, leaders and the ancient civilizational ethos.

Calls PM Modi a “war criminal”, Connects to Gujarat riots & faces criticism for baseless accusations

Zohran Mamdani has repeatedly quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “war criminal” without any evidence. He infact has justified his accusations on various occasions. During his election campaign, Zohran Mamdani was appealing to the Hindu-American voters during Deepawali. “My critic has been of Mr. Modi and the BJP political party for their vision of an India that only has room for certain kinds of Indians”.

The first apprehension is that why should Zohran Mamdani invoke the debate about Indian political system and the governance apparatus while appealing for the votes in New York elections. Also, on what evidence Mamdani accuses that pluralistic societal architecture is being eroded from India, when people from every religion or social background are beneficiaries of the social welfare schemes articulated by the Prime Minister Modi-led BJP government.

In an old video, Mamdani can be seen accusing Prime Minister Modi over the Gujarat Riots of 2002. He alleged that Muslims were vanquished from the state of Gujarat during the riots. “People don’t even believe we exist anymore”, Mamdani had further added. During the latest election campaign, the issue of Gujarat riots resurfaced. Reacting to a question, Mamdani drew parallels between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and called both of them as “war criminals”.

These baseless accusations by Mamdani against India and PM Modi have infact irked the Hindu-American voters of New York city. According to the New York Times, the Hindu-American community is angered against Mamdani and has reiterated that he has an “anti-India and anti-Hindu agenda”. Indu Viswanathan, an Indian-American based in New York described Mamdani’s statements as “blatant lies” and referred to him as “a projection of an illiberal, anti-intellectual, left-wing authoritarianism that has sunk its teeth into progressive politics”.

Reminder to Mamdani: Supreme Court has given clean chit to PM Modi

While Zohran Mamdani makes baseless accusations against Prime Minister Modi, he has to be reminded that the Supreme Court of India has rendered clean chit to PM Modi in the 2002 Gujarat Riot case. The Supreme Court upheld the reports curated by the Special Investigation Team(SIT) with respect to the 2002 Gujarat riots case and thereby declared Prime Minister Modi as innocent. Probably, Zohran Mamdani is unaware of these facts or just doesn’t want to listen to these facts out of sheer arogance and indulges in groundless, illogical exclamations.

Contrary to Mamdani statements, Muslim population in Gujarat is spiking

Zohran Mamdani had asserted that “Narendra Modi helped to orchestrate what was a mass slaughter of Muslims in Gujarat”. He also baselessly uttered that he is one of the last surviving Gujarati Muslims, as PM Modi massacred them all during the 2002 riots. But, the facts speak something different. The Muslim population of Gujarat grew from 4.5 million in 2001 to 6.6 million by 2011. So, here is the answer to the question whether PM Modi created the blunder or massacre and completely evacuated the Gujarati Muslims. If PM Modi is “war criminal” how can the Muslim population in Gujarat spike and thrive consistently in the state of Gujarat?

If PM Modi was a “war criminal” why would the 1.4 billion people vote him persistently for the third time, as the Prime Minister of the largest democracy of the world? Time to reflect and introspect for the Mayor of New York. Zohran Mamdani thus hits headlines for all the wrong reasons. He is a Khalistani sympathiser, who protested against the construction of the Ayodhya Ram temple which was apparently built based on the verdict of the apex court of India. His half-checked facts, his selective appeasement tactics and deliberately exhibiting anti-India rhetoric with ill-conceived ideas, arrogance and negligence are a testament to how Zohran Mamdani defies truths for the sake of vote-bank politics or to nourish his hitherto prejudiced perceptions. What is much more ridiculous is that Mamdani is unwilling and adamant to undergo a fact check and rectify his false statements, when the world knows the truth about India and its elected leader, who is recognised across the globe and whose approval ratings are beyond horizon!
