WB: TMC goons attack central excise officer Suvendu Adhikari slams Mamata govt over ‘Total collapse of law & order’

A serving Union Government officer was brutally attacked by a mob of over 50 armed goons in his own home in Rajpur–Sonarpur, on the outskirts of Kolkata, late on October 25 evening. The victim, Pradeep Kumar, an officer of the Central Excise Department, was left bleeding and unconscious after Trinamool Congress-linked assailants stormed his residential complex, vandalised his apartment, and physically assaulted his wife and family.

According to eyewitnesses and CCTV footage, what began as a minor altercation over a road mishap quickly snowballed into a pre-planned assault involving politically protected criminals and party-backed hooligans.

Around 8:30 PM on October 25, Pradeep Kumar was returning home when an auto-rickshaw driven by Ajijul Gazi rammed into his car near the entrance of his residential complex in Rajpur. The officer reportedly confronted the driver, demanding accountability for the reckless driving. What followed was an argument nothing unusual on Bengal’s busy roads until the driver allegedly threatened him with dire consequences and left the scene.

Within 20 minutes, the threat became a chilling reality. According to residents, Gazi returned with a mob of nearly 200 people, allegedly TMC workers and local toughs associated with Nazrul Ali, husband of Sonarpur Uttar TMC MLA Firdousi Begum. Witnesses recall that the crowd gathered outside the main gate of the apartment complex, shouting slogans, hurling abuses, and demanding that the officer step out.

When security guards tried to intervene, they were pushed aside and beaten. The mob smashed open the collapsible gate, tore down CCTV cameras, and stormed the officer’s flat on the second floor. According to sources, over 50 attackers entered the premises, vandalising doors, windows, and furniture.

Inside, Pradeep Kumar was dragged out and beaten mercilessly with rods and sticks. His wife, who tried to shield him, was allegedly pushed to the ground and verbally abused. The officer sustained serious head injuries, with eyewitnesses describing the apartment as “a scene of carnage.” Blood stains, broken furniture, and shattered glass were found strewn across the living room when police finally arrived nearly an hour after the distress call.

“I called the police multiple times,” said a traumatised Pradeep Kumar from his hospital bed. “They said they were busy with other work. For almost an hour, I was pleading for help while my wife screamed for assistance. Those men entered my house like wild animals. They beat me until I lost consciousness. I genuinely thought that was the end.”

CCTV footage from the residential complex has now surfaced, showing large groups of men scaling the walls, breaking locks, and entering the officer’s flat. Another clip shows the officer bleeding profusely from the head, staggering near the gate as neighbours rush to help.

The visuals, now viral on social media, have triggered outrage across the state, with citizens demanding accountability from the Sonarpur Police, who allegedly ignored repeated emergency calls.

Multiple residents have confirmed that the main accused, Ajijul Gazi, is not just an ordinary auto driver but a local strongman and close aide of Nazrul Ali, who wields considerable influence in the Sonarpur–Rajpur region. Nazrul Ali, sources claim, often uses local musclemen to intimidate residents, control auto unions, and silence dissenting voices.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who visited Pradeep Kumar and his family on October 26, morning, condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms, accusing the Mamata Banerjee government of shielding criminals and terrorising citizens.

“This is not an ordinary crime it is an act of political terror,” Adhikari said. “A Union Government officer, living in a gated complex, has been attacked by a mob led by people associated with a TMC MLA’s family. If such an officer is not safe in Bengal, imagine the plight of common citizens. Under Mamata Banerjee, there is no law, no order only TMC’s Goonda Raj.”

Taking to X, Adhikari posted, “TMC goons storm into Central Excise Officer Pradeep Kumar’s apartment in Rajpur; vandalise his home, smash his head. This is the total collapse of law & order in West Bengal. What happened last night is beyond belief. This jungle raj must end.”

Despite the gravity of the crime, police action has been minimal. After the officer’s formal complaint, one individual was arrested late October 26, but the prime accused and other attackers remain at large. Locals allege that the police are deliberately delaying arrests due to political pressure.

“We were terrified. The mob shouted political slogans, and the police refused to enter the lane until they dispersed,” said a resident of the same complex. “Everyone knows who these men are. Yet, no one will touch them because they have political backing.”

The attack on a Central Excise Officer, a Union Government employee, has sparked anger in bureaucratic circles as well. Several officers from the Excise Department and Income Tax divisions have reportedly urged the Union Home Ministry to seek a detailed report on the incident.

Meanwhile, Pradeep Kumar has been shifted to AIIMS Kalyani for advanced treatment. Doctors confirmed that he suffered a deep laceration to the skull, swelling on the head, and multiple contusions from blunt force trauma.
