Hazarat Ali, a scrap dealer in Miao, Arunachal Pradesh, was arrested for molesting a minor girl. The accused was arrested on October 14, exactly 2 months after molesting the 9-year-old girl when she was alone at home. The incident took place in the

Worong Hill locality, Miao town, on August 14. According to the report, the minor girl was alone at home when Hazarat entered the campus to purchase scrap materials. He then discovered that the minor girl was alone at home. Hazarat asked for a glass of water. When the minor girl bought the water glass, the accused touched her inappropriately and molested her. When the minor girl shouted, he fled the spot immediately. The minor girl’s friend later told her mother about the incident. On October 14, Hazrat revisited the victim’s house to purchase scrap materials. The minor girl identified him and alerted her parents. Locals gathered immediately and captured Hazarat Ali. He was handed over to local police, and an FIR was lodged at the Miao police station. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act, and the investigation is ongoing by the police.

Locals said that this is not the first instance of such wrongdoings by migrant Muslims in the town. In April 2025, Kabir Hussain, an autorickshaw driver, was arrested by police for molesting and attempting to rape a minor girl. Arrested Hussain, from the Sribhumi district of Assam, has been driving an autorickshaw in Miao town for the last few years. He tried to rape the minor girl in broad daylight on an isolated road in Kharsang town. The victim screamed and alerted the locals, who captured him in the Sunday bazaar.

A case was registered against the accused under Section 65 [1] BNS read with Section 04 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Hussain was subsequently produced before the POCSO court Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Khonsa, the headquarters of Tirap district.

Locals in Arunachal Pradesh demand that the government verify properly before allowing innerline permits to these migrant workers. These people have been involved in several anti-social and criminal activities across the hill state.
