Patna: Renowned folk singer from Bihar, Maithili Thakur on Tuesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] ahead of the key assembly poll scheduled to be held in November.

Thakur who hails from Mithila region on the occasion asserted that she has taken the step to serve the society after being inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The singer best known for her devotional and folk singing noted that she intends to take the ideology of the party to each and every person.

“I am very impressed with the PM and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. Drawing inspiration from them, I am here to support them…I do not believe that joining a political party makes you a politician; I am here to serve society and take their ideology to each and every person,” said Maithili.

She affirmed that she is deeply attached to Mithila and will do whatever the party orders.

“I am the daughter of Mithila, my soul resides in Mithila…Party will know what they have in mind for me; I am here just to support them. I will do whatever the party orders,” she added.

Expressing his delight over Thakur joining the party, BJP state president for Bihar, Dilip Jaiswal emphasised that supporting young talent like Thakur not only highlights the state’s cultural identity but also inspires future generations to achieve excellence in their respective fields.

“Maithili Thakur is the daughter of Bihar and Mithila, who is bringing glory to Bihar and Mithila across the entire world. So, it is our responsibility as people of Bihar to encourage her as much as we can and help her move forward,” said Jaiswal.

Maithili on October 5 had also met Union Minister Nityanand Rai and BJP election in-charge for Bihar, Vinod Tawde.

“I met them, we talked a lot about Bihar’s future and about what is happening in the state, let’s see, there is no official announcement yet, let us see what comes up ahead,” said Maitiali.

She also had shared the pictures of her meeting with the BJP leaders stating that “Every conversation with people who dream big for Bihar reminds me of the power of service and vision”.
