Bihar Elections 2025: ECI to conduct state assembly polls in two phases on November 6 and 11

New Delhi: Election Commission of India [ECI] on October 6 announced the dates of the Bihar state assembly polls.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Chief Election Commissioner [CEC], Gyanesh Kumar said that the elections in the state will be held in two phases. He said that the polling will be done on November 6 and November 11 with counting of votes scheduled for November 14.

The CEC informed that the last date for filing nomination on constituencies where elections will be hold under phase one is October 17, while the candidates contesting elections under phase two will have to submit their nomination forms by October 20.

He informed that scrutiny of the nominations will be done on October 18 and 21 respectively, while the last dates for withdrawal of nomination forms are October 20 for phase one and October 23 for phase two respectively. The CEC noted that the whole election process will be completed by November 16.

Interacting with the media personnel, the CEC said that Bihar elections are like mother of all elections and around 8.5 lakh election staffs will participate in the process to ensure its smooth execution.

Kumar informed that the Commission’s official recently interacted with the senior administrative officials of Bihar to ensure a fair and transparent elections in the state.

The CEC also praised the officials for successfully conducting an intensive voter revision in the state and informed that the Commission after conducting the voter revision has already shared the updated electoral list with all the political parties.

He further informed that CAPF personnel will be deployed in advance as a confidence building measure and strict vigil will be maintained to stop fake news.

The CEC said that the Commission will setup polling booths on ground floor for the comfort of senior citizens and volunteers will also be available to assist them during the voting exercise.

A day earlier, CEC Kumar in a presser informed that the Commission has implemented 17 new initiatives for the upcoming elections across the state.

Among the initiatives implemented by the Commission, the booth-level officials during the polls will now carry identity cards for easier identification while the voters’ mobile phones can also be deposited outside the booth. The Commission has also announced that no polling station will have more than 1200 voters.

The CEC said that the photographs of candidates will be printed in colour on the EVM Ballot Paper, and the candidate’s face will occupy three-fourths of the photo space for better visibility.

Kumar informed that the Commission has also trained booth-level officers for the first time alongside conducting a Special Intensive Revision [SIR] across the state to overhaul the electoral list ahead of the polls.

CEC Kumar congratulated voters on the successful completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and urged the people of Bihar to participate actively in the upcoming Assembly elections.

He appealed to all voters to treat voting as a festival of democracy, just like the enthusiasm shown during Chhath Puja, and ensure full participation at the polls.

Earlier, the ECI’s officials also interacted with the representatives of political parties and senior officials of the administration during their two-day visit to the state to review poll preparedness.

Notably, Bihar has 243 Assembly constituencies including two reserved for Scheduled Tribes [STs] and 38 for Scheduled Castes [SCs]. The state has a total of 7.43 crores electoral, who are expected to exercise their franchise in the upcoming polls.
