“Bharat’s diversity is its greatest strength. We are all Sanatanis, we are all Hindus. But a cunning Britisher came, showed us a broken mirror, and divided us. He took away our spiritual consciousness, gave us material goods, and from that day on, we began to see each other as separate. Bharat’s unity must be seen not in terms of language, religion, or regional identity, but from a spiritual perspective. Today, we need to look into a good mirror, one that shows us as one. When we look in the mirror of spiritual tradition, we will see that everyone is one. This is the mirror our gurus show us, and we must follow that path,” said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, at the inauguration of the new building of Meher Shah Darbar located at Baba Sindhi Camp.
Dr Mohan Bhagwat emphasised the need for all of us to look within ourselves, abandon our ego, and recognise our true selves. “Only when we recognise ourselves, society will change,” he said. Bharat has many languages, but the sentiment remains the same: love for the motherland and unity. He also mentioned the historical pain of Partition, saying that the Sindhi brothers who did not stay in Pakistan during the 1947 Partition are truly a symbol of undivided India. “We have left behind a room in our home and will one day have to take it back and settle down again. We will take back what is our right, because it is ours. We are all Sanatanis; the British broke us,” he said. He stated that language, clothing, hymns, buildings, travel, and food are ours; they should be in accordance with our traditions.
Dr Mohan Bhagwat said that some people don’t consider themselves Hindus, but the entire world sees them that way. “Those who don’t call themselves Hindus go abroad, but even there, people call them Hindus. This happens despite their efforts, because our identity is linked to our birthplace, culture, and outlook on life, not to any label,” he said. This statement symbolises Bharat’s cultural continuity, conveying the message that India’s soul can neither be bound by borders nor limited by any name.
Dr Mohan Bhagwat also imparted a profound spiritual lesson to society and said, “Let go of your ego and look at yourself. Don’t abandon your religion to fulfill your desires. When you carry the nation’s self in mind, all other interests will be fulfilled.” He said that religion is not just a method of worship, but a holistic approach to life. “Only when we practically embrace Dharma in our lives does society achieve both harmony and progress.”
Pointing out the policies of the British regime, he said, “The British were very cunning. They defeated us mentally more than through war. They showed us a broken mirror, in which we began to see our own brothers as strangers. They convinced us that our culture was backward, our traditions were useless, and in this deception, we lost our spiritual consciousness. Now is the time to shed this broken image and see the face of the true Bharat, one that is self-reliant, self-aware, and full of self-respect.”
He recently expressed similar views on the occasion of Vijayadashami in Nagpur. There, he said, “The time has come to restore Bharat to its true identity. Our indigenous systems were destroyed by foreign invasions and the long night of slavery, and now they must be reestablished.”
He also stated that change cannot come through mere mental agreement; it requires unity in thought, speech, and action. “This is precisely what the Sangh’s branches are doing. This is not just an organization, but a powerful process of self-awakening,” he said.
A remarkable confluence of devotion and patriotism was witnessed at the Baba Mehar Shah Darbar complex on October 5. On this occasion, Darbar Pramukh Purushottam Das Ji Maharaj, Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, Minister of State Pratima Bagri, MP Ganesh Singh, Indore MP Shankar Lalwani, State General Secretary Bharatiya Janata Party, MLA Bhopal South-West Assembly, former National General Secretary Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha Bhagwandas Sabnani, Jabalpur Cantt MLA Ashok Rohani, saints, and dignitaries were also present.
