Raipur: Two Maoists were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, police said on September 22. The encounter broke out between a team of security personnel and Maoists in Abujhmad of Narayanpur, along Mahatashtra border, resulting in neutralisation of two armed Naxals.

The operation was launched on inputs related to presence of Maoists in forest area of Abujhmad region along Maharashtra border. A team was dispatched on a search operation in the area and a gun battle broke out between security team and Naxals on Monday morning after which body of two Maoists were recovered from the spot.

An AK-47 rifle along with explosives in large quantity were also seized from the site of the gunfight. Intermittent exchange of fire is continuing and the operation is still underway.

Security forces in a significant operation had neutralised 10 hardcore Maoists including Central Committee [CC] member of CPI [Maoist], Modem Balakrishna in Gariaband district on September 11.

Personnel belonging to Special Task Force [STF], Commando Battalion for Resolute Action [CoBRA] and other units of police were part of the operation which led to a fierce exchange of fire with Maoists in forest area of Bhaludiigi under the jurisdiction of Mainpur police station.

Over 240 Maoists were gunned down in encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh since January this year.
