16 Maoists surrender in Narayanpur

In a related development, as many as 16 lower-rung Maoists have surrender before the police in Narayanpur district. The surrender took place before the senior officials of the police on September 11.

Those who joined the mainstream in presence of the officials cited disappointment with the ‘hollow’ ideology of Naxals.

They further cited disillusionment with the growing internal rift within the Maoist outfit and the atrocities committed by group members on innocent civilians.

The surrendered Maoists were all said to be involved in carrying out various unlawful activities on behalf of the banned Maoist’s outfit. They were all members of various units such as Chetna Natya Mandali [CNM], Jantana Sarkar and others.

The officials informed that upon questioning, the surrendered members told them that top Maoist leaders are misleading the locals with false promises of protecting water, forests and land to exploit them.

The surrendered Maoists will be all provided with the benefits of the ‘Surrender Cum Victim Rehabilitation’ policy.
