A man was arrested in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district for allegedly committing Love Jihad by concealing his religious identity to marry a Hindu woman and later forced her to convert to Islam, along with subjecting her to dowry-related harassment.

According to the woman’s complaint, Monish created a fake matrimonial profile as “Manish Chaudhary, son of Amit Chaudhary,” to deceive her, a clear case of Love Jihad. The two were married in December 2024 following Hindu rituals. The woman later discovered that her husband was actually Monish, son of Irshad Ahmed, a resident of Meerut, currently residing in Dineshpur, Udham Singh Nagar district.

Investigations revealed that Monish was already married to a Muslim woman at the time of his second marriage. Following the wedding with the Hindu woman, Monish and his family allegedly began demanding Rs 2 lakh in cash, a car, and gold jewellery as dowry. They also pressured her to convert to Islam.

According to the complaint, when she resisted the forced conversion as part of the Love Jihad tactics, she was subjected to physical and verbal abuse. An FIR was registered in the case, and Monish was arrested from Gayatri Villa in Jayanagar, under the jurisdiction of Dineshpur police station, Senior Superintendent of Police Manikant Mishra confirmed.

Monish has been booked under sections 69 (sexual intercourse by deceitful means), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to SSP Manikant Mishra, the investigation has been assigned to Sub-Inspector Rajni Goswami. The victim, a resident of Nanakmatta, informed police that on February 21, Monish and his family members assaulted her and forcibly evicted her from their home. She also alleged that they attempted to force her to eat non-vegetarian food against her will. She further claimed that her in-laws consistently pressured her to convert to Islam and threatened to kill her if she reported the abuse.

During interrogation, Monish confessed to the charges, admitting that he had created a fake matrimonial profile under the name “Manish Chaudhary” and married the woman using a false identity, police said.
