Chhattisgarh: 30 Maoists carrying 81 lakh reward surrender in Bijapur

The surrendered Naxals were all fed up with the hollow ideology of Maoists and growing internal rifts in the unlawful organisation

Bijapur: In a notable development reported from Basatr’s Bijapur district, 30 Maoists surrendered before the police, officials said on August 27.

The surrender took place before the senior officials of the police and Central Reserve Police Force [CRPF] under the ‘Poona Margem’ initiative. With the latest inclusion on Wednesday, the tally of surrendered Maoists in 2025 in Bijapur district has surpassed over 300.

Those who joined the mainstream includes of DVC member Sonu Hemla alias Karoti, carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh on his head. As per the details, 20 of the surrendered Maoists were carrying a collective reward of Rs 81 lakhs as announced by the State.

The surrendered Naxals were all fed up with the hollow ideology of Maoists and internal rifts in the organisation. They were also appalled by atrocities of the Maoist group on tribals. They were all inspired by the State’s Niyad Nelanar scheme and Surrender cum Victim Rehabilitation Policy.

Those who parted ways with the Maoist group have been provided with immediate financial assistance of Rs 50000 each and will be given benefits of the State’s rehabilitation policy.

Reacting to the development, Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai in a post on X said, that the State government has won the trust of the people which has led to surrender of Maoists in large numbers, eventually weakening the Maoist outfit.

Sai stressed that Naxalism is weakening in Bastar division which is fast moving towards peace and development. He reiterated that the Union and State government are committed to eliminate Maoism by March 2026.

Meanwhile Chhattisgarh Deputy CM Vijay Sharma too reacted to the surrender of Maoists stating that the development is a result of State’s rehabilitation policy, the efforts of security forces, and ongoing development work.

The deputy CM also urged Naxals to join the mainstream and improve their lives.

“In Bijapur in the Bastar region, 30 Naxalites have been rehabilitated. This is one of the largest numbers so far. This is the result of the Chhattisgarh government’s rehabilitation policy, the bravery of the jawans, and the government’s development works. We repeatedly appeal to the Naxalites to join the mainstream and improve their lives,” said Sharma.

Notably over 1500 Maoists have surrendered before the police in State of Chhattisgarh since January last year. The security forces in the same time period have also neutralised over 400 Maoists in separate campaigns in State’s Maoist-hit Bastar division.
