FBI raids home of former US NSA John Bolton and strong critic of Trump for classified document mishandling

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) has raided the house of John Bolton, who had served as the National Security Advisor(NSA) from 2018 to 2019, during the maiden term of Donald Trump. The raid is the latest in the wider controversy and crackdown unraveling in the US against the former officials for mishandling the classified documents

The Federal Investigation Bureau(FBI) of the United States has raided the home of former US National Security Advisor(NSA) John Bolton in Bethesda, Maryland which is located just in the outskirts of Washington. The high-profile investigation was undertaken by the FBI officials on August 22. The FBI has alleged that the former NSA has mishandled the classified information that were crucial to protect the national security of the United States.

John Bolton had served as the National Security Advisor in the first-term of Donald Trump from 2018 to 2019. He was sued in 2020 over his memoir ‘The Room Where it Happened’. It was alleged that the memoir contained sensitive information related to national security.  Investigation against the former NSA John Bolton thus was initially undertaken during the first-term of Donald Trump, however it was halted by the Biden administration. The Trump administration has now reopened the investigation, though the legal effort to block the publication of the book was failed.

Kash Patel, the director of FBI, took to his X platform and confirmed the raids undertaken on the house of John Bolton. “No one is above the law….@FBI agents on mission” Kash Patel wrote.

The raid on the house of former NSA can be deemed as the latest, in the series of relentless and controversial raids initiated by the FBI on former US officials for allegedly mishandling the classified documents and breaching the national security credentials. Earlier this week, Kash Patel had accused the former FBI director James Comey for authorizing the leak of crucial government documents during the 2016 election campaign. Kash Patel has pledged to root out corruption and expose the cover-ups’ within the federal government.

John Bolton had scrutinized Trump’s ‘India policy’

Since walking out of the Trump administration in 2019, John Bolton has been a severe critic of Trump’s policies and actions. He has severely scrutinized the Trump’s track record especially with respect to national security and foreign policy.

Lately, he has even criticised the Trump administration for its tariff tussle with India and mishandling the relationship with New Delhi. He has reiterated the India policy of Washington as ‘confused’. Bolton questioned the credibility and logic behind imposing additional tariffs on India for purchasing the Russian oil, while such punitive actions are not taken on Beijing who is also apparently the highest oil purchaser from Moscow. He said that such irrational actions only pushes New Delhi further closer to Moscow and Beijing.

“India-US relationship is currently in a very bad place. Leaving India hanging out to dry as the only country to which punitive action has been taken obviously leads a lot of people to conclude that the United States has given up on India. I do worry that is India being driven closer to Russia and China”, expressed John Bolton.
