Raipur: In a notable development, as many as 8 Maoists including two female cadres of the unlawful CPI [Maoist] have surrendered before officials in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district.
The surrender took place before Superintendent of Police [SP] Narayanpur, Robinson Gudiya and other security officials on August 20.
Among those who surrendered is a Divisional Committee [DVC] member identified as Dr Sukhlal. The surrendered cadres were all fed up with the hollow ideology of the Maoist group. They were also inspired by the surrender cum victim rehabilitation policy of the state government.
The surrendered members were all reported to be active in the Kutul area of Abujhmad, an erstwhile bastion of the proscribed Maoist group. They were carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 30 lakh on their heads as announced by the state.
Back to back surrender in Bastar
The development follows surrender of four hardcore Maoists in Kondagaon district of the state on August 19. Those who laid down arms before officials were all involved in carrying out various unlawful activities on behalf of the outlawed Maoist outfit. They were carrying a collective reward of Rs 22 lakh.
On August 17, four other Maoists had also surrender before police in Gariaband district. The surrendered group included of two women cadres. They were all active in the Maoist outfit for over a decade and carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 19 lakhs.

It is to be noted that security forces in recent years have amplified operations in core Maoist zones of state’s Bastar division, once identical with red terror.
Continuous operations of security personnel in Maoist affected zones of state have resulted in neutralization of around 450 cadres of the banned group including its top leaders in the last 20 months alone. Furthermore, the security forces during search operations have also apprehended over 1500 Maoists in the contemporary period.
Stringent security measures backed up by development works have also led to surrender of over 1550 Maoists since December 2023, marking a major turnaround in Maoist-hit zones of Bastar. The Union Government has announced to eliminate Maoist-insurgency from Bharat by March next year.
