The blast has occurred amidst intensified campaign of security forces against Naxals in state’s Bastar division.

Earlier on August 13, a joint team of security personnel neutralised two dreaded naxal cadres carrying a combined bounty of Rs 1.16 crore during a gun battle in Chhattisgarh’s Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district.

Those killed in the gun fight were identified as Vijay Reddy, a member of the Dandkaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC), who carried a bounty of Rs 90 lakh, and Lokesh Salame, Secretary of the Rajnandgaon-Kanker Border (RKB) division of the outlawed CPI [Maoist], carrying a bounty of Rs 26 lakh on his head.

The operation was launched jointly by Chhattisgarh Police, DRG, and the 27th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

The joint team following the exchange of fire also recovered weapons and other naxal-related materials from the site. The encounter leading to neutralization of Reddy and Salame marked yet another major blow to the Maoist group which is reported to be battling for survival.
