The deadly natural disaster that struck the Himalayan village of Dharali on the night of August 5, 2025, has brought the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sawayamsevaks into the forefront of relief and rehabilitation work. Among them, 70-year-old Department Union Leader Gulab Singh Negi ji stands out working tirelessly alongside the youth, embodying resilience and selfless service.

A sudden cloudburst that night unleashed a massive landslide and flash flood, tearing through Uttarkashi’s serene mountain landscape. The devastation was staggering: more than 40 homes and over 20 hotels and homestays destroyed, leaving upwards of 100 families in total ruin.

RSS Swayamsevaks have been distributing ration kits, food supplies, and other essentials to affected residents. Temporary shelters have been established to house displaced families, while medical aid and warm meals are being provided round-the-clock.

Survivors recall the terrifying moments when torrents of water, rocks, and debris cascaded down the slopes without warning, sweeping away everything in their path. Damaged roads and bridges have hindered rescue operations, but the joint efforts of local residents, RSS Swayamsevaks, and authorities are keeping relief activities moving forward.

For Dharali’s people, Gulab Singh Negi ji’s unwavering presence a septuagenarian still navigating treacherous terrain to reach victims has become a living reminder of courage and sewa (selfless service).
