“Hindus are being tortured in Bengal”: Suvendu Adhikari leads Hindu Yatra, slams CM Mamata for backing infiltrators

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari led a fiery 'Hindu Yatra' in Murshidabad, accusing CM Mamata Banerjee of shielding Bangladeshi infiltrators and enabling Hindu persecution. He warned of electoral fallout in 2026, demanding urgent voter roll cleanup and justice for Bengal’s Hindus

West Bengal’s political fault lines deepened on August 3, as BJP’s firebrand Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari led a powerful ‘Hindu Yatra’ through the heart of Murshidabad, raising searing allegations of targeted atrocities against the Hindu population and accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of appeasing infiltrators at the cost of national security and cultural identity.

“The Hindus are being tortured in Bengal,” slammed Adhikari. “The Puri mandir was insulted. A cultural centre was falsely declared a Hindu mandir to pacify sentiments. But Hindus are not fools. They are very angry. From Banasthala to every part of Murshidabad where atrocities occurred, Hindus are on the streets today. That is why we are doing this Hindu Yatra to give voice to the voiceless and justice to the persecuted.”

Adhikari didn’t hold back when targeting Mamata Banerjee’s policies and political leanings. He accused her of weaponising demographic engineering for electoral gains, stating, “Whatever she is doing, she is doing it for Bangladeshi Muslims, infiltrators, and Rohingyas… She knows she’s going to lose the 2026 elections. That’s why she’s resorting to such dangerous politics.”

His charges stem from an alarming claim: the presence of nearly one crore illegal voters comprising Rohingya immigrants, Bangladeshi Muslims, deceased individuals, and duplicates in the state’s voter rolls. “I urge the Election Commission of India to take swift action and clean up the electoral list,” said Adhikari. “Free and fair elections cannot happen when the very foundation of democracy the voter list is compromised.”

The ‘Hindu Yatra’ wasn’t just about infiltration and illegal voting it was a broader cry against cultural and religious humiliation. Adhikari highlighted the alleged disrespect to sacred Hindu symbols and spaces, notably the misrepresentation of a cultural centre as a mandir and a perceived insult to the Puri Jagannath mandir. These symbolic affronts have struck a deep nerve among Hindu voters, particularly in regions like Murshidabad, which have long struggled with the consequences of unchecked demographic change.
