Chhattisgarh: Nursery student beaten over ‘Radhe Radhe’ greeting by school principal in Durg

The accused principal Ila Colvin also allegedly put a tape on the mouth of the child for using the traditional greeting during the morning prayer

Raipur: In a shocking incident that has come to light from Durg district of Chhattisgarh, a school principal was arrested for allegedly beating a nursery student and sealing her mouth with tape after she greeted her with “Radhe Radhe”.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning at Mother Teresa English Medium School in Bagdumar village under the jurisdiction of Nandini police station of Jamul area.

According to details, the child who is a student of nursery class was beaten by the principal Ila Evan Colvin after the former greeted her with traditional Hindu greeting during the morning prayer on Wednesday.

The accused teacher also allegedly put a tape on the mouth of the victim child for using the traditional greeting. She also warned her against using the said greeting again.

The incident came to light after the child upon returning home, narrated her ordeal to her parents. Learning about the incident, the victim’s father then approached the local police and registered a written complaint against the accused principal.

Based on his complaint, police registered a case against principal Colvin under sections 115(2) and 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

Meanwhile, the incident also triggered a strong protest from local Hindu activists who subsequently gathered near the police station and demanded swift action into the matter.

The activists also submitted a memorandum, urging the administration to keep a vigil watch on incidents related to religious discrimination with students The matter is being investigated further by the officials.

Five detained for promoting conversion related activities in Raipur

In a related development, as many as five people were detained by the police for allegedly promoting illegal conversion in Raipur’s Gudyadi area.

According to media reports, a prayer ceremony was called in the house of Bhuneshwar Yadav of Murra Bhatti area where a few people were allegedly promoting illegal conversion related activities.

Upon receiving information about the gathering locals gathered near the spot and staged a protest. Locals alleged that dozens of people were invited for the said prayer ceremony who were being lured into conversion at the event.

A police team too reached the spot after being informed by the locals and detained as many as five individuals from the spot. The matter is being probed further.
