Rajya Sabha MP C. Sadanandan Master received a warm and emotional reception from the Malayali community in Delhi at an event organised at the Constitution Club of India on Monday. The gathering was a powerful expression of the deep respect and affection held for the veteran teacher and social worker.
Delivering the keynote address, Pragya Pravah National Coordinator J. Nandakumar Ji said that Sadanandan Master’s presence in the Rajya Sabha is a matter of immense pride for patriots across the country. He praised the Master’s long-standing contributions as a teacher, education reformer, former associate editor of Janmabhoomi, and editor of National Teachers’ News.
Nandakumar Ji strongly condemned the baseless criticisms being spread in some quarters over the nomination, stating that such attempts insult not only Kerala but the entire teaching fraternity of India. “This is perhaps the first time a school teacher has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the President. He represents millions of school teachers in India. His life is a testament to perseverance and purpose,” he said. Nandakumar Ji added that Sadanandan Master should be empowered further to contribute to the development of both Kerala and the nation.
In his reply, Sadanandan Master called for collective efforts towards nation-building. “No matter what sector we work in, we must contribute to the vision of a developed India as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
The event was presided over by Babu Panicker. A musical tribute was offered by Sadanandan Master’s daughter, Yamuna Bharati, who sang a geetham during the occasion. Union Minister George Kurien, MP Dr. P. T. Usha, and BJP Kerala cell leader Cholayil Sasidharan also addressed the gathering. Representatives of various socio-cultural organisations honoured Sadanandan Master by presenting him with a gold medal, marking the occasion as a celebration of dedication, service, and inspiration.
President Droupadi Murmu has nominated C. Sadanandan Master to the Rajya Sabha, marking a significant moment in India’s political landscape. Hailing from Mattannur in Kannur district, Sadanandan Master survived a brutal political attack in 1994 when CPI(M) cadres severed both his legs to prevent reattachment. Defying adversity, he returned to teaching and later took on leadership roles, including vice-president of the National Teachers Union and state vice-president of the BJP. His nomination places him among four eminent personalities, including Ujjwal Nikam, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, and Meenakshi Jain, chosen for their contributions to law, diplomacy, and social work . Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Sadanandan Master as “the epitome of courage and refusal to bow to injustice,” and commended his dedication to education and youth empowerment .
The felicitation programme at the Constitution Club was held shortly after C. Sadanandan Master took his oath as a Rajya Sabha member. Organised by Delhi Malayali community, the event served as a warm and timely tribute to the newly nominated MP, celebrating his remarkable journey from the classroom to the Parliament. The gathering reflected the deep pride and emotional resonance his swearing-in evoked among the patriots in the national capital.
