When saffron-robed monk Yogi Adityanath was sworn in as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in March 2017, his opening words were: ‘Either abandon crime or leave Uttar Pradesh.’ Eight years later every street, every temple bell and every public space in Uttar Pradesh is testament to the reality. What was once a state with mafia raj and political support for criminals has now emerged as a model of law and order, a modern Ramrajya where innocents can move freely and criminals tremble in the name of Uttar Pradesh.”

From Lawlessness to Dharma Rajya: The Transformation in Numbers

Major Crime Encounters and Arrests (2017–2025); Source: UP Police Official Data (2025)

The magnitude of Yogi Adityanath policy of zero tolerance to crime, from March 2017 to July 2025 is impressive. With 14,973 encounters and 30,694 arrests, the state has dislocated the organised criminal outfits in Uttar Pradesh in a calculated manner. Total criminal injured in encounter are 9,467 shows how a calculated move is done to crawl criminals instead of killing them. 238 fatalities among most-wanted criminals, reflect the tough stance of police against hardened mafias. The sacrifice of 18 police martyrs reflect, maintaing law and order is not an success but a war-like mission from 2017 till date. Overall, the table illustrate a transformation of police from reactive to proactive stands, aligning with constitutional policing.

Crime Reduction According to NCRB, Source: NCRB Crime in India Report (2024)

Organised crime declined by 35 per cent, reflecting the uprooting of long-established mafia networks. The 25 per cent decline in crimes against women points to the effectiveness of initiatives such as Mission Shakti and women-focused policing strategies. The sharp decline in kidnapping for ransom (↓40 per cent) and contract killings (↓45 per cent) demonstrates the breakdown of criminal networks that flourished with political patronage prior to 2017. These figures are indicative not only of policing effectiveness but also of regained public trust. NCRB statistics confirm that law and order reforms have brought Uttar Pradesh nearer to a state of security and stability like Ramrajya.

A senior police official, R. K. Bharti, said “Earlier, police were spectators; now we are protectors. Criminals think thrice before drawing a weapon in CM Yogi Uttar Pradesh.”

He also stated earlier, police stations used to be nothing more than complaint registers. They are now command centre’s of proactive crime prevention. CM Yogi equipped us with the power of modern technology and the boldness to act without fear against mafias.

Even the honourable Supreme Court in 2024 by observing cases remarked “If encounters follow due process and are aimed at ensuring public safety, they strengthen the constitutional rule of law.” CM Yogi administration has done precisely that ensures law is strict, yet constitutionally sound.

Smart Surveillance and AI Policing in UP

CM Yogi Adityanath not only gave the police weapons but also “Abhay ka aatma bal” (courage of conviction). Under his visionary approach, he also assisted the police department by creating an AI-powered crime mapping technique that identifies hotspots of crime. A 24×7 proximate CCTV surveillance and drone vigilance to keep sensitive areas under administration watch. Forensic labs in each city police headquarter has been set up to ensure evidence-based investigation, eliminating false FIRs and false arrests. Mission Shakti and Pink Booths for women’s safety, have made public transport and educational institutions safer for Matru Shakti.

Martyrs of the Dharmic War Against Adharma

This battle against adharma is not devoid of blood. Eighteen police personnel have lost their lives in encounters and other operations against criminals. CM Yogi called them as “आकाशदीप” (lamps in the sky) a perennial lamp lighting the state’s path from fear to faith.

At a police memorial ceremony in Lucknow, October 2024, CM Yogi Adityanath in tears declared: “They were not officers only; they were dharmic fighters who opted for duty instead of life. Their sacrifice is the pure offering, that has purified Uttar Pradesh by eliminating criminal.” Sunita Singh, widow of Inspector Arun Singh, stated that his husband has always said: “This is not just a job, it is seva for Dharma.” His death is not in vain. Because of officers like him, UP is finally free from mafia terror.

Ramrajya in Governance: Sanatan Dharma as State Policy

The guiding philosophy behind CM Yogi Zero Tolerance Policy mirrors Lord Ram’s dharma in the Ramcharitmanas:

aparādhinha nisicara jani prānī, kara ḍārauṃ mahi kaṭhinu abhimānī||

अपराधिन्ह निसिचर जनि प्रानी, कर डारौं महि कठिनु अभिमानी॥

The innocent shall not be touched, while the wicked and arrogant will be eliminated. Just as Shri Ram had taken an oath to spare innocent creatures while punishing demons, CM Yogi never harasses an innocent citizen while going after hard-core offenders relentlessly. This equilibrium of compassion and justice renders his leadership inherently dharmic.

Safety Brings Prosperity: Investors’ Trust in Yogiraj

Where there is safety, there comes prosperity. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) 2024 informs that FDI in Uttar Pradesh has nearly doubled in five years and the state is among the prime destinations for foreign investors. Mega projects such as the Ganga Expressway Industrial Corridor, Defence corridor and Jewar Airport-linked manufacturing clusters are flourishing, because stability in law and order has generated confidence for investors.

March 2025 survey by private media channel TOI reveals that 78% of respondents feel safer now than in 2016 and 63 per cent believes CM Yogi governance has revived public trust in the police. Parents send their daughters to colleges without fear, Rajesh Dubey of Varanasi said “my daughter travels 20 km daily for college. With Pink Booths, CCTV surveillance and strict anti-harassment drives, we no longer worry like we used to. This change is visible and real.” Also, the traders keep shops open late into the night, a reality which was unimaginable a decade ago.

Yogi Adityanath: A Monk Reviving Dharma

When present day political scenario is based on opportunism, CM Yogi Adityanath stand apart. A monk who rules not according to politics but as per Rashtra Dharma. His administration and governance style are a real-world implementation of the Ramayans ideal such as “निर्दोष की रक्षा और दुष्ट का दमन”, by protection of the innocent and annihilation of the wicked.

From eradicating mafia dons to the protection of women, CM Yogi has restored the cultural pride of Uttar Pradesh, as it is the land of Shri Ram and Shri Krishna two forms of Bhagwan and greatest ruler of world. The saffron flag no longer flies only on temples but it also represents justice, courage and Sanatan revival in the political arena.

As CM Yogi himself asserts: “In Uttar Pradesh, criminals will be in jail or will exit the state, there is no third alternative.” This is not a threat, it is dharmic judgment. The city of mafia raj in the past now sets an example for Bharat, a contemporary Ramrajya where Sanatan Dharma is the guiding force behind every decision and every righteous citizen breathes free.
