Reports state that around 7 pm on July 10, 2025, Ankit, also known as Chotu, was heading to charge his e-rickshaw near Mohalla Imali. At Sabir Chowk, some Muslims stopped him and asked him to stop playing bhajans. When Ankit asked why it was a problem, he was told to leave, after which he proceeded ahead.

Following the incident, Bhura, Sameer, Usman, Azim, and Nurrahman, along with 15 to 20 others, allegedly surrounded Ankit and brutally assaulted him. They reportedly tried to strangle him and used caste-based slurs during the attack. The assailants then threatened him and fled the scene.

After the incident came to the attention of local Hindu organisations, an FIR was filed at the police station on Friday (July 11, 2025). The police registered a case under serious charges, including assault, attempted murder, and relevant sections of the SC/ST Act, against five named and 15 to 20 unidentified individuals. So far, three accused have been arrested and sent to jail.
