Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has announced a special job fair to recruit female conductors across various regions of the state to empower women and promote employment. The recruitment drive will be scheduled between July 15 and July 25, and will be held in various cities including Noida, as part of a broader plan to hire 5,000 women conductors across the state. Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh said the initiative aims to enhance women’s participation in public service roles while ensuring fair and localised job opportunities. All selected candidates will be posted in their home districts. This will provide ease of work and better community engagement.

So far, 1,800 women have already been selected through previous job fairs conducted in April. Among them, 1,328 candidates have been appointed, while the remaining are currently undergoing training. To fill the remaining 3,200 positions, the UPSRTC will organise job fairs across various cities in Uttar Pradesh on scheduled dates. On July 18, job fairs will be held in Ghaziabad, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Aligarh, and Bareilly. The next round will take place on July 22 in Meerut, Etawah, Devipatan, Azamgarh, and Hardoi. The final phase of the drive is scheduled for July 25, which will cover other major locations such as Noida, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Saharanpur, Kanpur, Chitrakootdham, Agra, Moradabad, Banda, and Prayagraj.

To be eligible for the post, women candidates must either be members of the Uttar Pradesh National Rural Livelihood Mission or the UP Skill Development Mission. Alternatively, candidates holding an NCC B certificate, NSS certificate, or state/presidential awards from the Scout Guide organisation are also eligible to apply. The selection will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the intermediate (Class 12) examination. In addition, those with the NCC or NSS credentials or Scout Guide awards will be awarded a five percent bonus on their intermediate scores.

The verification of eligibility documents and certificates will be carried out through offline procedures during the job fair itself. Once selected, the candidates will undergo training for the role of conductor under the UP Skill Development Mission. The salary offered will be at par with existing contract drivers and conductors within UPSRTC.

This recruitment campaign not only addresses the shortage of staff in the state transport system but also furthers the government’s efforts toward inclusive and skill-based employment. The emphasis on hiring women conductors is part of a broader push by the CM Yogi Adityanath-led government to provide secure, dignified, and well-paying opportunities to women within their local areas.

The ongoing campaign shows Uttar Pradesh’s commitment in empowering women and strengthening public transport infrastructure simultaneously. Candidates who are interested in participating in the job fair are advised to approach their nearest depot during the designated dates and bring all relevant documents for verification.

By appointing women as conductors, UPSRTC is not only creating job opportunities but also aiming to enhance women’s visibility and safety in public transport. Through this initiative, buses will become more women-friendly and encourage safer commuting environments. The recruitment process is merit-based, relying solely on intermediate exam scores and eligibility criteria. This makes the application process simpler and more accessible for women from rural or underprivileged backgrounds who may be discouraged by competitive written tests.

The key focus of this recruitment drive is towards women who are associated with the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) especially those involved in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in rural areas. This will promote financial independence and community leadership among rural women. This recruitment drive is an important step in the government’s plan to make public transport safer and more friendly for women. By hiring more women as bus conductors, the state is preparing for future changes that will focus on women’s safety, easy access, and empowerment. In the coming years, this plan could lead to special buses only for women, help desks to solve their problems, and better systems to handle complaints from female passengers and staff.
