In a shocking incident, at least nine shots have been fired at comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Surrey, British Columbia Canada, just days after it was inaugurated.  Khalistani terrorist Harjit Singh Laddi has taken responsibility for the shooting, in which no one was injured.

The cafe, called Kap’s Cafe, is Kapil Sharma’s and his wife Ginni Chatrath debut into the restaurant industry.
A video, from Wednesday night (Canada time), shows a man sitting in a car firing at least nine shots at a window of the cafe in quick succession.

The bullets not only hit the cafe, but also nearby buildings. The attack has triggered panic among locals and Indian diaspora in Canada.

The area has been sealed off and CCTV footage is being scanned, besides a forensic investigation.
Notably, Laddi is one of NIA’s most wanted terrorists and is associated with the Babbar Khalsa International.
According to reports, Laddi is said to have ordered the shooting because he was offended by an earlier statement made by the comedian. The firing was meant as an act of personal intimidation.

According to a report by Times Now, in a statement circulated online, Laddi wrote “offensive remarks” made in an episode of The Kapil Sharma Show that allegedly mocked the attire and behaviour of Nihang Singhs, a Sikh warrior sect known for their spiritual and martial traditions.

According to the statement, the comments were perceived as an insult to Sikh values and spiritual identity. “This mockery is an attack on the dignity of Nihang Singhs. No religion or spiritual tradition should be made fun of in the name of comedy,” it read.

Laddi further claimed that multiple calls were made to Kapil Sharma’s manager, which allegedly went unanswered. The statement warned that if Sharma does not issue a public apology, there could be further consequences.

Harjit Singh Laddi is wanted by the National Investigation Agency for the murder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar alias Vikas Bagga. The VHP leader was shot dead at his shop in Punjab’s Rupnagar district in April 2024.

However, Kapil Sharma has also not come out with a statement.

It is to be noted that, in a report last month, Canada’s top intelligence agency, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, said that Khalistani terrorists have been planning acts of violence against India from the country.
“Khalistani extremists continue to use Canada as a base for the promotion, fundraising or planning of violence primarily in India,” the agency said.

Who is Harjit Singh alias Laddi?
Harjit Singh, widely known as Laddi, is a Germany-based operative of the banned Khalistani terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). He has been named in multiple terror-related cases and is one of India’s most wanted fugitives. Laddi played a key role in the conspiracy behind the assassination of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar, also known as Vikas Bagga, who was gunned down at his confectionary shop in Nangal, Roopnagar district, Punjab, on 13 April 2024.
