Former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Gaini Raghbir Singh has filed a petition against SGPC in the Punjab & Haryana High Court mentioning “he could be removed from the Head Granthi post of Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib”. (Golden Temple)
This is a first time in history that any former Jathedar has approached the High court. He has filed petition apprehending that his services as Head Granthi can be terminated.
Former DSGMC President and Akali leader Paramjit Singh Sarna criticised Giani Raghbir Singh, Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, for taking a religious matter to a High court.
Sarna said such a move disrespects the sanctity of the high spiritual position, which has been held by revered figures like Baba Buddha Ji and Bhai Mani Singh Ji. He accused Giani Raghbir Singh of prioritising personal interests over religious values, thus diminishing the dignity of the post. Sarna urged SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami to take immediate action and relieve Giani Raghbir Singh from religious duties, suggesting he be reassigned to administrative roles instead.
Notably, on March 8, 2025, the executive committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) sacked Akal Takht jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh from his post.
