What did Gopal Rai mean by ‘Will Occupy PM House’ — Is AAP planning a street war?

A political storm has erupted in Delhi after AAP leader Gopal Rai made a provocative remark during a protest against slum demolitions. The BJP has hit back strongly, accusing AAP of promoting anarchy and exploiting the poor for political gain

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest on Sunday against the demolition of slum dwellings in Delhi, sparking a sharp political backlash from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Tensions escalated after AAP leader Gopal Rai made a controversial statement during the protest, warning that if slum homes were razed without proper rehabilitation, they would “enter the Prime Minister’s house and take control.”

Rai said, “If you bulldoze homes without rehabilitation, use all your police and political power — we’ll enter the Prime Minister’s house and take control.” His remarks have drawn strong criticism from BJP leaders, who condemned them as reckless and accused AAP of promoting anarchist and anti-national rhetoric.

The BJP has slammed AAP over Gopal Rai’s remarks, accusing the party of revealing its “Naxalite mentality” once again. BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said Rai’s statement reflects AAP’s “anti-national mindset.”

“Delhi’s common citizens stand firmly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP candidate Rekha Gupta. But Gopal Rai’s threat exposes the anarchist mindset of Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP,” Bhandari added.

BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli also criticised AAP, connecting Gopal Rai’s remarks to past statements by party leaders. “Arvind Kejriwal once said, ‘I am an anarchist.’ Today, Gopal Rai is merely echoing that same anarchist mindset,” Kohli stated. Kohli also claimed that AAP’s statements about supporting the poor are “just a show,” and that the party’s true nature is one of lawlessness and disorder.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva dismissed the Jantar Mantar protest as a “complete flop” and accused Arvind Kejriwal of exploiting slum dwellers for political mileage.

He also recalled that five months ago, AAP leaders, including Kejriwal and Gopal Rai, had attempted to incite their supporters to march towards the Prime Minister’s residence.

Sachdeva further stated that many slum dwellers are now questioning Kejriwal’s leadership, saying, “In 10 years, you’ve built yourself a lavish ‘Sheeshmahal’, but why haven’t you provided proper housing for the poor in places like Narela or Bawana?”

The controversy has deepened the political standoff between AAP and BJP in Delhi. While AAP portrays itself as a defender of the poor, BJP accuses it of fostering chaos and undermining stability.
