In a major announcement that reinforces India’s commitment to sustainable development, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has declared that the state will generate 20,000 megawatts (20 GW) of renewable energy by the year 2027. This goal aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of achieving net zero emissions by the same year, signaling a major shift in India’s energy strategy toward clean and green alternatives.
Speaking at an event, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi highlighted the global trend toward green energy, pointing out that several countries have already banned or reduced thermal power production to combat climate change. “India must follow this path of environmental responsibility,” he stated, emphasizing the need for accelerated efforts in renewable energy and electronics sectors.
CM Yogi Adityanath noted that solar photovoltaic (PV) technology has already played a vital role in bringing electricity to remote and tribal areas of India regions where extending traditional power lines remains a challenge. These off-grid solar installations have not only improved access to power but also demonstrated the practical success of renewable solutions in underserved communities.
The Chief Minister also emphasised that immense potential still remains untapped in the field of green energy. He called for greater innovation, policy support, and private investment to scale renewable energy infrastructure across the state and country. “We must work with urgency and vision to strengthen our renewable capabilities. This is the future, and we have to lead,” he said.
The plan to achieve 20,000 MW of renewable power in Uttar Pradesh includes expansion of solar, wind, and bioenergy projects, along with the promotion of green infrastructure in both urban and rural regions. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions, creating green jobs, and improving energy security.
