Bhubaneswar: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Odisha (Purv) Prant, successfully organised a four-day educational and experiential journey titled “Janajati Chhatra Adhyayan Anubhav Yatra” from June 17 to June 20 in Bhubaneswar.
This initiative aimed to foster self-development, cultivate leadership qualities, and inspire tribal students to actively contribute to the nation-building process. A total of 81 tribal students from 15 districts across Odisha participated in the yatra, making it a vibrant and inclusive event.
During the programme, students had the opportunity to visit the Raj Bhavan and interact with theGovernor of Odisha. They also toured the Odisha Legislative Assembly and engaged in discussions with several state ministers, gaining valuable insights into governance and public policy.
As part of their educational exposure, participants visited prominent academic institutions in Bhubaneswar to learn about higher education opportunities and career pathways. A special civic felicitation ceremony was organised in the city to honour the participating students and acknowledge their aspirations.
This meaningful journey not only broadened the students’ perspectives but also reinforced their commitment to social service, leadership, and national progress.
Governor Urges Tribal Students to Be Ambassadors of Awareness
A major highlight of the yatra was a special interaction with the Governor of Odisha, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, at Raj Bhavan. Held in the historic Old Abhishek Hall, this meeting provided students with a rare opportunity to engage in direct dialogue with the constitutional head of the state.
During the session, Governor Kambhampati urged the tribal youth to stay informed about various central and state welfare schemes, particularly those designed for Scheduled Tribes. He emphasised that awareness of schemes such as the PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA), and the Forest Rights Act (FRA) is crucial for community development.
The Governor encouraged students to act as bridges between the government and their villages, promoting awareness and ensuring that tribal populations can benefit from these initiatives. “Set a clear objective in life and work hard to achieve it. Education is the most powerful medium to reach your goals,” he said. He also highlighted the need for students to understand their rights and make full use of reservation provisions in education and employment.
Students enthusiastically shared their learnings from the yatra, and the Governor expressed confidence that they would emerge as community leaders and change-makers.
Engagement with Ministers: Leadership Dialogue in Action
As part of their exposure, the tribal student delegation visited the official residence of Shri Nityananda Gond, Odisha’s Minister for School & Mass Education and SC & ST Welfare. In an engaging discussion, the Minister listened attentively to the challenges faced by the students and appreciated their aspirations.

Sharing personal anecdotes of struggle and perseverance, Shri Gond highlighted the vital role of youth in national development and encouraged students to pursue their education with dedication. He emphasised that education, when combined with commitment, can transform not just individual lives but entire communities.
In another impactful session, the students met Shri Suryabanshi Suraj, the Minister for Higher Education in Odisha. The Minister acknowledged the challenges faced by tribal students in accessing quality higher education and expressed deep appreciation for their determination and potential.

“Tribal students have no shortage of talent or confidence,” said Minister Suraj. “Their role in building a strong and inclusive nation is vital, and the government is fully committed to supporting their educational journey.”
Institutional Visits and Civic Exposure
Throughout the four-day yatra, students toured several premier educational institutions in Bhubaneswar, gaining first-hand exposure to academic opportunities and career pathways. These visits aimed to broaden their horizons and bolster their confidence in pursuing higher education and leadership roles.
In addition to institutional exposure, a civic felicitation ceremony was organised to honour the students at Raja Madhusudan Dev Degree College. The event celebrated their determination and commitment to personal and social development, reflecting the broader vision of the yatra to cultivate responsible and aware citizens.
