Hours after Kaur’s murder, a video emerged on the internet where Mehron claimed that the YouTuber was killed due to her “immoral and vulgar content”. The radical Sikh leader also warned other influencers against uploading “objectionable content”. A video of that surfaced on social media as on June 13.
In a video going viral on social media, Mehron confessed that the Kamal Kaur was murdered by two of his aides for “defaming Sikh values” and “mocking the surname Kaur.”
Amritpal Singh Mehron is currently on run and fled to UAE hours after the incident, police said on June 15, 2025. He has also threatened other social media creators and influencers against posting “objectionable content.”
Mehron boarded a UAE-bound flight from Amritsar airport at 9.15 am on June 10. “His travel history through passport records revealed this detail. We will now initiate the process of getting him deported from the UAE,” she said.
Notably, Mehron posted a video on social media taking responsibility for the act. In the video, he alleged that Kaur had defamed Sikh traditions and used the name ‘Kaur’ to share obscene content. He also issued a warning to other online creators. “Khalsa never attacks women, but when a woman targets our Takhts and mocks Sikh values, she cannot be spared,” Mehron said. Justifying his actions, he showed clips of Kaur’s past videos.
He had previously threatened influencer Deepika Luthra, who is now frightened after the killing of Kamal Kaur.
Chilling Sequence of the Murder
Notably, Mehron had visited her home two to three times during this period. On June 7, when he visited, Kamal Kaur wasn’t at home, and on June 8, she refused to accompany him to Bathinda for a car promotion event saying that her mother was unwell. However, on June 9, she agreed to go, as Jaspreet and Nimratjit assured her that her car would also be renovated.
“On the afternoon of June 9, Amritpal travelled with Kanchan in her Hyundai Eon car while Jaspreet and Nimratjit followed from Moga in a Scorpio. After midnight, once the car’s renovation work was completed in Bathinda, Amritpal drove while Kanchan sat in the back seat beside Nimrajit. The two men allegedly slapped her, snatched her phones, and forced her to share passwords. Then, Jaspreet and Nimratjit made her sit in the middle of the back seat while they sat on either side and used a ‘kamar kass’—a cloth belt worn by Nihang Singhs—to strangle her. They pulled it from both sides for 10 to 15 minutes until she died,” said Kondal.
On June 13, two accused – Jaspreet Singh (32) of Moga and Nimratjit Singh (21) from Tarn Taran had been arrested in connection with the murder of Kanchan Kumari, who was found dead in an abandoned car in a parking lot in Bathinda. Further investigations and questioning of the two arrested accused has revealed that two more accused are involved in the murder conspiracy. The 30-year-old influencer, Kamal Kaur, a Ludhiana resident, was known for her short videos on Instagram, where she had more than 3.83 lakh followers. She also used to run a YouTube channel called ‘Funny Bhabhi TV’, which had 2,36,000 subscribers.
Meanwhile, in a shocking statement, Akal Takht Sahib Head Granthi, Giani Malkit Singh, has come out in support of Amritpal Singh Mehron. He stated that the killing of the woman accused of spreading obscenity, allegedly orchestrated by Amritpal Mehron was a right step.
He further claimed that certain individuals hide their true identities to defame other religions by promoting vulgarity, which he described as unacceptable and against the principles of faith. He further added that such incidents have occurred in the past as well and urged the youth to refrain from listening to obscene and vulgar songs.
However, netizens are crticising him for his statement and calling such a henious crime as as “right step”.
Police arrest two Nihangs in connection with the murder
Meanwhile, two Nihang Sikhs have been taken into custody for their suspected role in the crime. Authorities are investigating their possible links with Mehron and their involvement in the case.
Nihangs are a warrior sect in Sikhism. They are recognised for their distinctive blue attire, traditional arms. The accused, however, were not wearing the traditional dress when they committed the crime.
The accused claimed that Kamal Kaur’s content on social media was immoral and hurt community sentiments.
Police are now examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to reconstruct Kaur’s last known movements and identify all those involved in the crime.
Mehron faces criticism within community
Nihang leader Harjeet Singh Rasulpur took to social media and criticised Mehron for blackmailing people. “If anyone is feeling threatened by Mehron, they are free to approach me and I will stand by them. It is a shame that Mehron is donning the dress of a Nihang and using it to issue threats and kill. Why is Mehron and his men even watching this kind of content? If somebody wants to show their own character through their social media posts, what is Mehron’s business in it?” said Rasulpur.
Now, Bollywood singer Mika Singh has expressed concern over the brutal murder. Lashing out Mehron, Mika Singh posted a video on social media, in which he can be seen taking a sarcastic dig at Mehron, saying, “An influencer has been murdered. Amazing! What a proud moment. My name is Mika Singh, I belong to a Sikh family, and I am so proud that two Sikhs killed the woman. Very good! Until now, Sikhs were known for helping people, for always being the first ones to stand by those in need, but this is something very different! Congratulations Amritpal Singh Mehron to you and your men.”
He further continued, “Are you so free to see who is dancing, who is wearing short clothes, to go and kill them? If you are so courageous, then there are so many other problems in the world, go and handle those. Is this the only job left in the world for you? To find a woman who wears short clothes and kill her?”
Mika accused Mehron of tarnishing the image of Sikhs across the globe. “The Sikh community is that community that has been feeding people for free in langars since forever. We were the first ones to step out and help during COVID-19 outbreak. There are so many real criminals in Punjab, go and hunt them down. But no, you be busy killing women for no reason, and making the community proud. On one hand, there are people like Bhagat Singh who laid his life for the country, and on the other hand, there are people like you who think it’s a courageous act to kill a woman,” he said.
