Imphal: Karyakartas of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Manipur Prant, along with the Manipur Seva Samiti have been extending helping hands to flood-affected areas in different parts of Manipur.
The incessant downpour for the past seven days have severely affected the State with significant impact at Imphal East, Imphal West, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Thoubal, Jiribam and Bishnupur districts. Landslides were reported from Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Pherzawl.
Riverbanks of the Imphal river were collapsed at Heingang, Khurai, Kshetrigao, Wangkhei, Yaiskul, Kongba, Kongpal and other northern sides of the 10 km long river that originates from Kangpokpi.
Since June 1, Swayamsevaks have served 3,251 households at Wangkhei, Keithel Ashangbi, Meihoubam Lampak, Ayangpali Heinou Makhong, Kongpal, Khurai Sajor Leikai, Popular Relief Camp, Heikru Makhong Relief Camps, Salanthong Relief Camp, Nongmeibung Relief Camp and other affected areas. “Twenty five people have been rescued by the Swayamsevaks of Manipur Pranta”, said Brahmacharimayum Bilki Sharma, Karyavah (General Secretary) of RSS Imphal district.
Affected people and those who are staying in different relief camps run by civil bodies and organisations are in need of essential items like clothes, edible items, medicines and drinking water. As usual, RSS Swayamsevaks and karyakartas are the first responders to natural calamities and we have been undergoing our selfless service for the people at this time of urgency. Altogether, 250 karyakartas are actively participating in the relief and rescue activities,” Bilki said.
The torrential rain has inundated several areas, including the historic Shree Govindajee Mandir, hospitals, schools, MLA quarters, commercial and residential areas.
Rescue operations of the people who are stuck at the flood-affected areas and evacuation of the affected people to safer places are being conducted in the affected areas.
According to Government sources, nearly 170,000 people have been affected in 643 localities. So far, 36,000 houses have been damaged. Hundred and two landslides occurred and confirmed the death of a 57-year-old person while several people remain missing. Government and civil bodies have opened helplines and established 77 relief camps for the displaced people.
