Floods ravage northeastern states of Bharat

Guwahati: Relentless monsoon rains have thrown life out of gear across the northeastern states, with landslides, flash floods, collapsing homes, and tragic deaths.

The biggest city of NE and capital city of Assam, Guwahati is reeling under artificial flood for the last 24 hours. Flash flood, landslides have paralysed the life of Guwahatians and at least 5 people including two minors have lost their lives in landslides in the city. According to a morning bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) over 10000 people of the city are affected by the flash flood in Guwahati. Some other districts of Assam are also facing flood issues due to continuous rain in the last 48 hours.

Authorities has deployed teams of SDRF in the flood affected areas. All.schools, colleges remained closed in Kamrup metro and rural districts on May 31. Relief teams are providing relief materials to the affected people and also rescuing the people stranded in flood.

Mizoram: Landslide ravages houses

In Mizoram, aIso landslides triggred by heavy downpour completely demolished in New Chalrang village in Khawzawl district. Luckily no one was injured in the landslide as no person were at home at the time of the incident.

Arunachal Pradesh: Landslides and floods 
Arunachal Pradesh continues to battle widespread flooding and landslides, with Upper Subansiri district reporting more than 80 homes submerged. Other affected districts include Kurung Kumey, East Kameng, Siang, Shi Yomi, Kra Daadi, Lower Subansiri, Namsai, and Lohit.

The state disaster management department has issued red alerts in several of these vulnerable areas and urged residents to evacuate to safer locations. While the scale of damage to infrastructure is significant, authorities have confirmed that there have been no reports of casualties so far.

Sikkim: Teesta river swells

Sikkim saw a sudden rise of water level in Teesta river. Continuous rain causing the increase of 2.5 meter water level in the Teesta river prompting authorities to cancelled all the travel permits to the tourists.

Landslides has blocked several roads leading to the Chungthang town of the state. Authorities has started clearing drives to rescue all the stranded people.

Tripura: Lightning kills wild elephant

A tragic event occurred in Tripura on Friday morning when a four-year-old female wild elephant was discovered dead in the Dukhipara forest, which is part of the Teliamura subdivision of the Khowai district. The animal was killed by a lightning strike during a thunderstorm late Thursday night, according to forest officials. Local volunteers who monitor elephants made the discovery and promptly notified the forest department. Since then, authorities have started a post-mortem investigation to determine the cause of death.

Northeast on high alert
With rain continuing to pound the region, disaster response agencies across the Northeast are on high alert. Relief camps have been set up, evacuations are ongoing, and teams are monitoring vulnerable riverbanks and hilly areas for further signs of danger.

Authorities have advised people living in landslide- and flood-prone zones to stay indoors and follow official safety instructions. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast continued heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours, increasing fears of further damage.

As the monsoon tightens its grip, the region is bracing for more challenges ahead. But amid the hardship, the resilience of the people and the coordinated emergency efforts are standing strong against nature’s fury.
