A 32-year-old man, identified as Qasim, was taken into custody in Deeg, Rajasthan, by a joint team of the Intelligence Bureau and the Crime Investigation Department on suspicion of espionage for Pakistan.
Authorities allege that Qasim maintained contact with individuals in Pakistan over the phone during India’s recent military operation, Operation Sindoor. It has also emerged that he had previously visited the neighbouring country, raising further concerns.
Officials plan to subject Qasim’s mobile phone to forensic analysis to determine the extent of his involvement and whether he engaged in any activities related to spying. Further questioning is underway as part of the ongoing investigation.
In a widening crackdown on espionage, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a man from the Kutch border region on charges of spying for Pakistan. The accused, Sahdev Singh Gohil, a health worker from Gujarat, is suspected of maintaining contact with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and allegedly supplying them with sensitive information.
According to officials, Gohil is believed to have shared details about strategically important sites in Gujarat. The ATS, acting on specific intelligence inputs, also suspects that he passed on information related to the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Air Force (IAF). He has been brought to Ahmedabad for further interrogation.
This arrest follows a series of detentions linked to espionage activities across the country. In the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, J&K — which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists — security agencies have intensified their surveillance and counter-espionage operations.
Over the past three days, 11 individuals have been apprehended in multiple states on suspicion of spying for Pakistan. Among the most high-profile arrests was that of Jyoti Malhotra, a travel vlogger from Haryana, accused of leaking sensitive data to Pakistan.
The others arrested include students, civilians, an app developer, a security guard, and more, with detentions reported across Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. The coordinated action signals a heightened national effort to dismantle espionage networks believed to be operating within India.
